The first one will be in Austin "the LoneStar Roundup" on the weekend of the 18-19 of April. Perhaps even some of us Midwest people will get into the same car show if we make an effort. Dennis Dennis, If you are going to make it to the Roundup let me know. Made my hotel reservations yesterday. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Sounds like a meeting in the making. Kirk Estes used to live right here, in a town next to Joplin, but we never did know each other then. Don't know if he had his P15 back then......I've had mine since 1973. Of course, it didn't look so slick when it got it...... Quote

Dennis_MN Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks for all of the ideas especially the help list. As for Georgetown, its the new Del Webb deal where my wifes friends live. Looking forward to a long drive. I'm even going to get my California buddy to explore the area around Old Women Springs and up the Mountain from Mentone. Dennis Quote
Allan Faust Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I'm trying, I'm trying..... moved down south to Ottawa (so now I'm closer to Greg and Shel.... gonna try to hook up sometime.... Also, I've been posting locations that I"m travelling to in my new job... ie Evadale, Green Bay, Wisconsin Falls, International Falls, Washington State somewhere (don't know the exact locale yet) and a good possibility for a week in North Carolina between now and the summer....I may evenutally end up in Europe (Germany, Belgium or Sweden are possibilities, but that is after going through another multitude of learning curves)..... Allan Quote
Young Ed Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Allan you are getting closer with the northern WI area. I think most of the WI guys on here are more southern WI though. Quote
Allan Faust Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I can't help it... I gotta travel to kraft pulp mills and they usually aren't in the bigger cities...... the green bay site is just where I fly into.... I'll actually be driving from there to wisconsin rapids, quinnesec and escanaba.... Same thing with I Falls, I believe it is at least four hours north of you for that matter.... Allan Quote
Young Ed Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 We stayed in Escanaba on the way to and from detroit. Its a nice town. The other town we stayed at just on the way there I didn't care for. Traverse city. International falls I bet is 5 or more. Thats all the way to the canadian border. Quote
Allan Faust Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 So I hear...... I'm just posting the different possibilities because I would like to meet some of the members here, but at the same time, In some cases I know my time would be limited. I can't "drive" too far off the beaten track due to rentals, and the job definitely comes first, but if there is any way I can meet someone from the board, I definitely will try..... Allan Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Allan, If you are in Wisconsin Rapids, you are about 2 - 2 1/2 hours from the Milwaukee, WI or St. Paul, MN area by car. So.....you'd be racking up the miles on a rental car. Quote

In other words they charge by the day/week/month, not by the number of miles you put on them. Quote

But........some do charge if you go over a certain amount of miles, depending on how long you rented the car for. You gotta watch those guys. It's like their insurance they try to sell you. Most people's own insurance policy will cover damage to a rental car if you rent one. So, no need to pay the extra insurance cost from the rental agency. Quote

Allan There are a lot of pulp or paper mills around Wisconsin. The Fox Valley area (Appleton - Green Bay) has several. Also the area around Wausau, Mosinee, and Wis Rapids has a bunch. In fact there's a joke I've heard around that area... "Kiss her where it stinks... Take her to Mosinee." Not many mills down around here, that I know of. But if you end up getting trapped in Wisconsin over a weekend, let us know. I'd be up for a minor road trip to meet you. Merle Quote
Young Ed Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 The only mill I know of in MN is in Duluth. Quote
