RobertKB Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Cool, just thirty. Don't know if I'll ever make 500 but you never know. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Nile, if you change brands I hope you'll continue to post. Hate to lose anyone's storehouse of knowledge! How about a Lincoln Zephyr? Or a 50 Pontiac Straight Eight fastback? Just a comment on lurking: I may be doing that for a while as my car is up for auction on the bay and I don't know what I'll get next! Since I'm an equal opportunity car nut there ain't no way to know. I've been looking fondly at Buicks, Nashes, Studebakers and Pontiacs but the next thing in the shop (assuming the Dodge sells) will be my Chebby pickup. Sooooo, I might be a lurker for a while. Ain't much to say here about any of my possible projects; at least not at this moment!! Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Norm, funny you should mention a 50 Pontiac fastback. That's actually one I've been thinking about! I've always had a hankering to soup up a straight eight and I love the GM fastback style from that era. Of course, Buick made that nice little Special fastback in 50 (except for that ugly bucktoothed grille). Hmmm. I wonder what a straight eight sounds like with pipes??? Quote
Normspeed Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 My mom had a blue 50 fastback. We kids called it the bullet. Even stock, I remember that straight 8 exhaust note. Great car. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Nile....there's a yellow 49 or 50 pontiac 4 door fastback for sale here in Joplin. It has been repainted and reupholstered in white.....don't know whether it is a 6 or 8 cyl. A pretty nice car. I think maybe 7500 or so. If interested let me know. Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Thanks for the tip but first, I've got to sell the Dodge then hunt around. My ideal would be a 2 door eight with stick shift. We'll see what turns up . . . . Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Nile..after buying a few cars here and there and only later finding out just how hard parts are to find for some models versus another..this may very well be your best approach to your next purchase..I am pretty sure you have in your mind the "end results" of your next project and knowing that it can only be achieved if the parts are avialable and affordable when found. Good luck on your search for a nice unit...if the radio plays with a dead battery..walk away...remember Christine!!!!!!!!!! Quote
greg g Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Here is one a little later, not a fastback but a 2dr hardtop, with the straight 8 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/51-Pontiac-Cheiftan-Catalina-Super-Duty-NR_W0QQitemZ270076341054QQihZ017QQcategoryZ6418QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Heard that these Poncho Straight 8's were notorious for breaking tops of pistons off. Could probably be solved with some late model slugs. Quote

Could probably be solved with some late model slugs. I broke the top off of a piston on a 49 eight back in the late sixties. Instead of messing with the old engine we stuffed in a Rocket 88 out of an Olds. Boy, did I have fun with that car!! Quote
Normspeed Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I see greg's photo, then later his message and photo show in Nile's message because Niles quoted the original. But my posting times are 10:10 am and 8:35 pm. OK, either there is wierd stuff going on with my computer, of Greg is trying for "Guru".Same post with the Pontiac pic at 12:10 and 5:46:eek: But the 5:46 one does not show below when I am writing this reply. Anyone else seeing this double post? Quote
