Powerhouse Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Hi All... I have a question about 16 inch Plymouth wheels someone might be able to answer. I have one wheel with a larger sized "vent hole" where the wheel center meets the wheel outer rim. All my others have a smaller "vent hole". Anyone know what years these were used on? Quote
Young Ed Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 The small holes were about 37-40 then they switched to the bigger vents. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 These are 15 inch......supposed to be 1948 or newer. Looks like the larger slots. Quote
aero3113 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Bob what size tire is in the pic? Are they radials also how big is that white wall I am looking for www for my 50 plymouth Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 It's a 15 inch bias ply tire. Purchased at some farm or auto store in the Kansas City area originally. I bought a set of 4 already mounted on those rims at a swap meet in KC 3 or 4 years ago. This is the entire set....... This is the size white on my wire wheels......just a little more narrow, which I like better. Also bias ply. Would like some radials next. Quote
aero3113 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Is the ride really that different from radials? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Yes.....quite a bit different. When I had some radials on the car a few years ago, they made it handle better......covered up the play in the steering. Did not notice the grooves in the road either. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Bias plys get a flat spot if they sit too long, have to work them out by driving around, also a little more side to side play when driving. Con, radial sizes won't quite match up, speedo will be fast or slow depending on which size you pick. Check Greg's chart on tire sizes. Radials, definately a better ride, a bit more pricey, your application, your choice. Quote
oldmopar Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Radials are a much better ride and worth the extra $. I would not worry much about a few mph difference on the speedometer does anyone really watch their speed that close. Talking about speedometers they but a electric sign by me that shows how fast you are going I drove by with my truck 2000 s10 it was same as sign. Then I drove by with my wife's 2002 focus and it was a about 2 miles slower then the correct speed according to the speed sign and her car still has original tires on it. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 You are right of course, speed varies back and forth anyway. There is usually a 5 mph cushion built in with law enforcement. It's not like we are running cruise control! Quote
greg g Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 The 16 inchers that were on my 46 when I got it from the original owner had the small slots. the pair of 15 inch wheels that came with "snow tires" on them had larger slots. Quote
