aero3113 Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 I am currently running P215/70R15 narrow white walls, will P205/75R15 tires fit ok on a 50 plymouth? They are wider white walls just want to make sure they will fit with no problems before I buy. Quote
greg g Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 too short, 215 75 or 225 75 15 are closer to correct diameter though considerably wider. I run 225 75 on the rear fom my car. There is good clearence, and they match up to measured miles. Quote
aero3113 Posted November 19, 2008 Author Report Posted November 19, 2008 What do you mean by too short? I thought the 75 is a taller tire than a 70 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Can you sit one size tire by the other to compare their height?? I used 205s on the 47 Plym several years ago......they made the car sit maybe an inch or so lower than my 6.70-15s. They may or may not look a tad small for the car......you would just have to check it out. 215's are a bit better size - closer to the original tire size. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 they are the recommended tire size given your 70 series now verse the 75 you want to go to....direct change..go for it... Quote
aero3113 Posted November 19, 2008 Author Report Posted November 19, 2008 I would like to get radials on my car with the biggest white wall I can get. They are very expensive! I found the P205/75R on ebay they have a 2 3/8 white wall anyone know where I can get a good set for a decent price with a wide white wall. I already know about Diamond back,Cocker,Candy. The ones on ebay are a decent price but would want to know if they would fit but would also like a wider white wall maybe about 3-4 inches. Anyone have a set they want to sell? what do you guys think about bias ply I like the ride of my radials so want to try and stick with radials. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 bias ply is only for the original look..the ride they give is not worth the hassle of mount and balance even if given to you free....would be a severe step backwards if you intend to really drive this car... Quote
greg g Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 205's are to small in diameter regardless of their aspect ratio 205 70's are shorter (less total diameter) than 205 75's, either is too small to replace the stock tires. Stock were in the neighborhood of 28 inches in diameter mounted. 205 70 are about 25.5, and 205 75 are about 26.5,. For metric tires, as the aspect ratio number increases ( 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80) the tires get taller in relationship to their section width. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 you can go down one aspect in width and go up one in regard to aspect in height and be considered equal by the tire industry as far as mileage correctness etc etc..the man is going from a lower profile to a higher profile with smaller width..IE direct fitment swap...at least that is what was stated in the first post... oldmopar Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Try this tire calculator http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Quote
aero3113 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 With the Calculator there is hardly any differance and only .06 mph off from what I am currently using Quote
aero3113 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 Do you guys see much of a differance with the calculator? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 kinda like an f-stop on a camera and a shutter speed..trade one for one... Quote
aero3113 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 Dont know what an f-stop is ? I have to ask my fiance she works for canon. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 with today's camera..its all about history I guess..the scale is not linear like the f-stop/shutter is..but works well going one size up or down over stock... As Greg mentions..the tires of today are very much different than the stock tirres on our cars when new...the best you can do is try to match the wheel patch with the proper height (rev-per-mile) etc etc...all you can do is get as close as possible with todays availabile tire..to go total retro for old style tires..cost and wear and such for the price....just not quite worth it unless you show the car for points..the average person will never look twice to see just what size you are running..and it they get down that close to inspect..they are in perfect position for a whack across the neck with a ball bat...lol Quote
aero3113 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I like the way you put it, I hate when people inspect the car and nit pick everything Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I'm guilty of nitpicking but only when they open the door and call it a restoration...that be an blank check...otherwise...what one does is what one wants to do and we leave the resto word out of the picture... Quote
greg g Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Try this one ignore the graphics except for the diameter. kevinanderson Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Has anyone tried the whitewall tire paint that is posted on ebay? http://cgi.ebay.com/WIDE-WHITE-WALL-TIRE-PAINT-KIT-whitewall-tires-classic_W0QQitemZ390010225110QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item390010225110&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Quote
rolliejoe Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 I'm in the same boat, want wide white walls and also want radial but the prices are steep. Is there a reasonable priced wide white wall radial compatible tire out there? Is the white wall paint (as posted) a good option? Quote
aero3113 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I found a company on e-bay that shaves tires they have been doing it for over 30 years. I contacted them and they have P215/70R15 tires with a 2" white wall for $549.99 shipping included !!! I just wrote to them and asked if there is anyway they can make the white wall bigger.I will let you guys know what I find out. Quote
aero3113 Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 Thats the biggest they can make them. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Personally I think 2 inch would be very nice..larger..but not "hey look at me and not the car wide"..it should be an accent..not the main feature of the vehicle Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 I have upcoming purchase of 4 tires for the 54..while the three tires available on the car from the factory, two were blackwall and only one style in whitewall and those were 2 11/16 inch wide. Based on the 6.70 x 15 stock size the three tires available today that are considered by the makers asn replacements are 205 x 75; 215 x 70 or a whopping 225 x 65 but on the later..not sure about the how they will look with a small sidewall comp[ared to the full dish caps... The WWW's on the car now would suffice for a while and may stay there a bit longer than I want but they do "have" to go... Quote
