Young Ed Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Just got back from our annual 3day fall tour with the ply club. Didn't calculate exactly and I think the odometer in the pickup is off anyways but I showed about 350 miles. We saw an old fashioned water powered flour mill which they powered up for us, the spam museum, national eagle center, ate at the bar featured in grumpy old men, the hormel house, elmers car museum(sadly no pictures allowed in the buildings) and a guy with a toaster collection of over 400 toasters! Young Ed Posted October 6, 2008 Author Report Posted October 6, 2008 The bar from Grumpy old Men. Somehow I missed getting a picture of the building though! Cool on the road shot. and the rest http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v172/dodgepu1946/ply%20club%20fall%20tour%202008/ Quote
greg g Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 We stopped at the Spam Museum coming home from our trip to Yellowstone. We enjoyed the museum and its displays. Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam..... Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Nice photos Ed. Where is the Spam Museum? It looks like a place to ad to my places to try to see. Dennis Quote
Young Ed Posted October 6, 2008 Author Report Posted October 6, 2008 Austin MN. All of our trip was the SE area of MN. A lot of the out the window pictures are on highway 61 which follows the mississippi. Very nice drive. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Thanks for the pictures and sometimes it just nice to see the guys who drive these neat old cars. I'm going out to look at another 42 Dodge today! Its a two door sedan. I have seen it before but that was probably 18 years ago and it was under an old apple tree and sunk down in the mud down to doors. I was interested in getting it at one time as a second parts car but I think the only left on it of any interest would be the stainless steel trim. The rest of it probably is pretty well shot. Its to bad as the owner along time ago told me it was owned by her brother and he just drove it back into the backyard and covered it up. Probably been there for 25 years or so. The reason I'm checking it out again is the lady that showed it to me is in a nursing home and another guy has pulled it out of the muck and is trying to get $800 dollars for it. I think it would be only worth as a parts car now or maybe a rat rod as its been outside in this northwest weather to many winters. Well anyway if I get out there today I will take some pictures just for the fun of it. Jon Quote
Young Ed Posted October 6, 2008 Author Report Posted October 6, 2008 Driving is what its all about. We go on 2-3 driving tours a summer. This was the third one( I didnt go on teh first one into ND). We had a couple cars come and go but most guys did all 3 days. At one point a local out driving his model A jumped into line with us and cruised along. He kept on when we stopped to tour the mill. A guy in our club from up north a ways has a p15 sitting out on his farm. He said he'd sell me the front clip. So I might have another road trip in the works. Quote
John Reddie Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Really nice pictures Ed. You must have had a great time. I think it was you who posted a picture of your blue "51 Plymouth convertible in the South Dakota badlands. Is there any chance that you still have access to this photo and could post it again? That would be great. Thanks. John R:) Quote
Young Ed Posted October 6, 2008 Author Report Posted October 6, 2008 Trip was awesome. I was worried it wouldn't be as fun because I was looking forward to driving the 48. Its a much better car for road trips. The truck performed quite well. No complaints. It was a little cold in there at times but we survived. Here you go. Actually Dads car. This was on the way home from I think the 2000 national meet. Quote
John Reddie Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Thanks Ed. That was quick response for sure. That is a honey of a '51. The badlands as John Steinbeck put it in "Travels With Charlie" looked to be created by an evil child. Thanks again Ed. John:) Quote
Young Ed Posted October 6, 2008 Author Report Posted October 6, 2008 Thanks John. We were joking that we were going to get kicked out of the park for distracting people from the attractions. I think at each stop people looked more at the car then the hills. Quote
John Reddie Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 Ed, The car really looks super and a great color too. Someday I would love to go there in South Dakota and see the badlands and Mount Rushmore. Good luck to you on you '48 Plymouth too. Fortunately there are a lot of P15 parts cars left so you should be good. I remember back in the '50s when I was growing up, those cars were everywhere. John R Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 Nice pics, Ed. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 It was a little cold in there at times but we survived. It does not look to me like you were cold:D Looks like you had a terrific trip. Thanks for posting the pictures. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 7, 2008 Author Report Posted October 7, 2008 We did have a terrific trip. It was still cold though. The first 2 mornings it was in the 30s when we set out. Sat my truck was covered in frost and a little ice from rain that froze. BBBrrrrrrrrrr Quote
