....When I rescued my 52 Dodge B3B it came with a box of parts. In that box was the oil filter. I'm finally getting around to putting it on the truck but after searching the forums I'm a bit confused where the lines should go.

Could someone please look at the attached pics and tell me which line should go to which fitting?

...and I am in need of the strap that secures the filter to the bracket. Anyone have a extra one on a parts truck?

Thanks...

If the upper port on your filter is indeed the inlet as you show, than it connects to that same fitting where your gauge connects, since that one has the pressure. The lower port on the block is the return. Connect this one to the other port on the filter.

Good luck with the clamp search. Maybe a couple of large hose clamps put together would hold it until the correct one comes along.

Ian / Merle,

Thanks much for the help. So it sounds like I'll need to put a "T" in the line somewhere to accommodate both the oil filter and the oil pressure gauge.

Does it matter much where in the line it goes? I just want to make sure that the gauge continues to report correctly.

In your first picture it looks like the fitting where your gauge pipe is connected has another plugged off port. (#2 in your pic) If I am seeing it correctly, this is your pressure feed to the filter.

Here's a higher resolution picture....

So if I'm understanding correctly the "Inlet" on my oil filter should be connected to "#2" and when I place the filter roughly in place the line currently attached to the filter fits nicely there.

So my last question would be: where does the other line go? Door #3 or Door #4?

Yes, #2 is the oil pressure feed that supplies oil to the "Inlet" of your filter. The other connection at your filter is the oil return and should be plumbed to port #3, which returns the oil back into the sump.

What's behind "Door #4" (as you put it) is your oil pressure regulator. No need to remove that plug unless you need to service the regulator.

Thanks for all the help Merle....and I'm sure I'll have more questions to come...

Tom, I'm grateful for the offer of the strap. I'll gladly send you some $ to cover the postage. Shouldn't be too much since you are in Cloverdale and I'm in West Vancouver. Please PM me with an amount and where to send it.

~or~ Are you ever in Downtown Van? Perhaps I can meet you somewhere.

Here`s another variation.

Don`t know the reason way but some Australia engines are set up this way.

The oil line comes out of the oil gallery behind the starter motor. It feeds back into the block in the normal position.

The oil pressure gauge is feed from a line that comes out of the oil gallery near the breather.

On mine the oil gauge feeds from the spot where your oil filter is. Then the oil filter feeds right above the return.

My gauge line connects by the fill/breather tube, and there was no filter when I got the truck. I got my filter off ebay and plumbed it up as I'd seen others. I suppose the line routing depended on who was doing it and what they thought was easiest at the time.
