  2. I know of a good place in Santee California called the Speedo Shop. Tell Todd that Mopar Jack referred you. I also use a place in Los Angeles for restoration. The company name is Redline. I have used Shannon for years.
  3. Now it's time to start cruising and repair the "bugs" as they surface. I have only had one build that was perfect from day one. It was a 1969 Super Bee 383 4 speed car. It was completely flawless! No leaks, no rattles, the car was kissed by an Angel, I swear to it! LOL

  5. I have been spending some time by the barn. The Slant six uses 5/16" studs. Our beloved Flatheads use 3/8" studs. Oops! I was off a tad on my eyeball measurements.... Sorry everyone!
  6. Been there done that, ended up removing all the convenient parts to go back to something that actually worked on a 1962 Dodge truck once. Complete disaster, welded up linkages, modified exhaust, oil pan and ETC.... Too embarrassed to admit my defeat. I was a young guy back then! Much wiser now. The factory engineering in these cars was well thought out. Trying to reinvent the wheel may cost more than you think. If you live near me, I have extra Engine's that I can part with at a fair price. I am somewhat close to San Diego and somewhat close to Mexico. I wish you the best of luck in your adventure.
  7. I forgot to mention that it would be tough to measure an exact 4.375" or 11.1125 CM while trying to do this on your own with the engine in the car. Your measurements will be somewhat close to the exact reading due to the angle of what you are measuring with inside that hole in retrospect of where the brass plug is located. Measuring with a perfect 90° in that hole is a challenge by yourself, especially while spinning the engine over with your other hand... Thank you for letting me know your findings.
  8. Your engine is a 218 cubic inch. 218 engines used a 4 3/8 stroke. They became 230 cubic inch when the stroke was increased to 4 5/8 inches. 1 inch = 2.54 CM. I have 24 flatheads by the barn that I have collected through the years. None of them are marked like yours on the ID pad... That is what inspires me about your engine being identified.
  9. Glass shops use some really industrial stuff to set the glass. It is always worth it to give one a call and ask what works best.
  10. I really want to know if your engine is a 230 or a 218. If you remove the brass plug on your rear cylinder, you can rotate you engine around by hand and measure the stroke from TDC to BDC and come up with the length. 4 5/8" is a 230, and shorter = 218.... Please post your findings.

  12. Casper50, Lift up an arm, bend it back, and start patting your hand on your back. You have done a spectacular job on this car! You are going to cherish the fruits of your labor on this restoration! Great job, very well done. I am not sure if I will envy you just yet. When I completely restore my 1938 Plymouth, I hope it turns out just as nice as your car has. If your job looks better, then I will be slightly envious.
  13. Mine looks almost exactly like that crimper. The stripper on the end is so handy when making the wires the proper length.

  15. I have a tool that exclusively does 7mm and 8mm spark plug wire ends.

  17. Anything can be restored, it's just has to be worth the effort. I am sure that your mom was devastated when her car got mangled. Really sad....
  18. For the past 16 years, I have dragged around a OD unit from my 1958 Dodge Truck. One of these days, I will do some measurements to see how compatible it is. The down side is the length. This transmission is really long.
  19. In the future, if you need a nut or washer for the Intake/exhaust manifold.... I am a slant six wierdo, and it appears that the same fasteners carried over from the flatheads to the slant six. Sometimes slant sixes can still be found in junkyards to obtain this hardware. I may need to put the parts side by side to compare to see if the studs are the same length.... But by eyeball they appear to be spot on.
  20. The crankshaft and connecting rods are the most valuable assets. In my opinion, yes it is worth it.
  21. Where is this car located? I am not interested in the drive line. I noticed a couple of other parts that I have interest in...
  22. It appears the have them for the straight eight models also. I was looking for a gas tank for a friend's car. Once I saw this, I had to post it. I have purchased tanks in the past from these guys and have been satisfied with the products purchased. If anyone buys one, please let us know your opinion.

  24. I am a purest at heart, but then watching someone save a car, and seeing it being loved, cherished, and driven..... Well let's just say that I have a soft spot in my heart for that. It's awesome that you are making the car a part of you, and your family.
