  1. My son did the vinyl wrap for the bumpers of his '36 Plymouth. He did a LOT of sanding to get rid of all the rust and pits. The wrap looks nice, but not as nice as chrome. I would guess it is about 80% as reflective as chrome. And you are correct - it is not nearly as durable as chrome. However, the cost was about 1/4 the cost of chrome, so he figures even if he has to have it redone in 5 years, he is still way ahead of the game as far as price goes.
  2. Your wheels look great. Nice job on the pinstriping!
  3. Wow!! I'm impressed! I'm sure you will have many requests to make someone else's molding look as good as yours!
  4. Wow!! That will be absolutely stunning when it is finished! Keep us up to date on your progress. And include lots of pictures!!
  5. Wow! Thar's a lot of information, Rich!! I sent you an email.
  6. Does anybody have a picture of original wiper switches for a 1936 P2. Mine are totally non-existent, so I don't even know what they are supposed to look like! Of course, if you happen to have a couple of them in your extra parts box, be sure to let me know! Many thanks, guys!!
  7. Man, that looks terrific!! Very impressive!!
  8. Does anyone have access to a color chart that shows pinstripe colors for 1936 P2?
  9. Great looking car! And I love hearing the stories that old cars have to tell.
  10. I'm curious. Could you back the car on to the dolly and secure the front wheels so they don't steer? I saw a tow truck driver take off is belt and strap it around the steering wheel and the door post. He towed the car several miles that way without incident. That would eliminate the need to remove the driveshaft.
  11. Oh, the joys of vacuum wipers! Most 12volt wipers that I have seen cannot be used with the original radio because of clearance issues. You might be able to find a 6volt motor from an early 50s Mopar that would work. If your wires are in good shape, the 6volt wiring will be heavier than a 12volt replacement harness. My personal opinion is that modern plastic coated wiring looks out of place on these cars. A good cloth covered wiring harness is going to be more expensive than a 12olt replacement, but I think it would be worth the extra cost in the end. Just my two cents worth!! Enjoy your great car!!
  12. Thanks, Sniper. I checked the link and it is still 12 volt.
  13. I would like to keep the 6 volt. From what I understand, even if you change to 12 volt, you cannot use the Newport setup if you have the original radio.
  14. My P15 has vacuum. I would like to find a good electric setup that will bolt in without major modifications, and I thought maybe the Chrysler motor would do that.
  15. Will the 6volt 2 speed electric wiper motor from a 46-48 Chrysler bolt into a P15 sedan?
  16. We wish you the best in whatever you do, but you can still stick around here and share some of that sage advise you have gathered over the years!
  17. I have had two dimmer switches from NAPA literally fall apart during he installation process! Are there any good ones out there?
  18. rallyace, I agree with you. Thank you for taking the time to make it known so the moderators can (hopefully) do something about it!
  19. I have a couple of problems for the electrical experts. The gas gauge in my P15 has not worked since I inherited it about 6 years ago. It always reads empty, or less than 1/8, even when the tank is full. I keep track of the miles it is driven, so it is not a huge problem. I just get gas after a certain number of miles. My battery recently died, so I put in a new battery. I noticed the ammeter showed a discharge, even when travelling at 55 mph, so I had the generator rebuilt, and it charges as it should. Here is where it get interesting. I started the car yesterday and let it run at a high idle for a few minutes when I noticed the gas gauge read 1/2! But when I slowed the engine, the gas gauge went back to empty! I played with it a few times just to make sure. At higher rpm's the gas gauge would come up, and at lower rpm's it would go down. The gas gauge is mimicking the ammeter - it just moves slower than the ammeter. The car is 6volt positive ground. Any ideas what could be causing this?
  20. Great job! You will have to make a trip to sunny Florida for a few days. I have three cars for you to hone your skills on!
  21. I ALWAYS enjoy seeing good neon!!
  22. Harnesses Unlimited also offers complete looms with correct color coding for your vehicle. We're all looking forward to hearing more about your project!
  23. Nice job!! If you think you still need more practice, I have a couple of cars you can "practice" on !:-)
