  1. So I drove home last night and noticed a strong fuel smell.. I started the car this morning and have fuel dumping from front of the carb. I figure it’s most likely the float. I’ve done a little reading, and while I plan do do a quick rebuild anyway, I think I’m going to upgrade to something more efficient than the Carter bb. I’ve heard the w-1 is a popular choice, but I’m wondering if any of you know of a bolt-on carb that’s readily available that you can recommend thanks!
  2. Thanks fellas, it looks like I need the two stop rings and synchronizer springs and I’m having a hell of a time finding them. Do any of you have a line on trans parts, or a rebuilt transmission? anyone on the west coast you could recommend? is it even worth rebuilding this thing?
  3. Thanks for the input guys.. after talking to my parts guy, I am starting to lean toward a rebuilt transmission, or maybe even an upgrade. I would love to be able to do highway speeds, and I plan to really drive this thing, so it may be a better option. does anyone here have any experience with a 4 or 5 speed upgrade, or a line on a solid rebuilt 3 speed trans?
  4. Well, gentlemen, I’m hoping you can all help me again the 1947 p15 is in the shop with the driveline blown apart, and I’m told I need new synchros. i would just ask my mechanic, but he’s out of town til next week, so my question is this. How do I know if I have a pin-type, or a shaft-type setup? I’m hoping to order the right part before he gets back into town. My trusty Plymouth service manual doesn’t say which went in which car. it’s a three speed manual bolt-action-theft-deterrent tans?? thanks guys! alex
  5. I think this is my plan. I figure I can install the two valves and cut the flow off until I get around to switching out the heater core. most definitely plan to replace it, but I’m not in a huge rush if its not dripping on my floor. And anyway, summer is really starting to happen up here in WA, so I have at least a couple months before I’ll really need heat. thanks again guys!! cheers Alex Cook
  6. Thanks, guys for all your help. I’m still waiting on the shutoff valve to show up, but cleaned up the flange on top of the water pump and reinstalled it. Kencombs was definitely right, the two pieces were pretty much seized together but it’s still solid. now that I’ve replaced every other part of the cooling system, my heater core is dumping coolant all over my floor, so it looks like I’ll be replacing that too. ? im considering just putting a valve in the heater hose and closing it a-la sambuchanan. Hoping that will get me through the summer without having to drain this thing again! By the way, shout out to Michael at Mopar pro.com. He has had almost every single part I have needed in this process. thanks to all for your input!
  7. Well, i found the 90 degree connector at my local Napa , but I’m still on the search for the flat flange it screws into. Worst comes to worst, I’ll just clean up the existing part and hope it holds water .. I’m also looking for the connector that leaves the head on the return hose… will post a pic as soon as I get a chance … hope to do the install this weekend, weather permitting!
  8. Can anyone tell me what this part is called and know where I can get one? I’m upgrading the entire cooling system and I can’t seem to find the right words to search for. it’s the flange on top of the water pump that clamps to the hose that goes to the heater core (I assume). I also having trouble finding the right water outlet for the top of the motor (in the same photo) thanks in advance!
  9. I was actually looking at cloth covered harnesses last night! They definitely seem few and far between. I definitely agree that the plastic coated wires clash with the whole vibe of this thing. I’m still probably going that route but I’m definitely wrapping all of it in fabric loom so I don’t have a bunch of plastic showing. cheers!
  10. I will most likely do the full wire harness. It’s looking like all original fabric wrappedwiring as far as I can tell and brittle and beat is the least i can say! the electronic ignition is a definite bonus. the kit I’m looking at has all the brackets and pulleys that line up so for ease of install I’m most likely going that way. Very tempting to save the dough and just get a generic harness and alternator.
  11. Well no matter what these vacuum wipers do, I love this thing. I can’t wait to give it the love it deserves. I’ve never had so much room to move around in and engine bay! It’s almost like I can turn wrenches without bloody knuckles.. Wishful thinking I know!
  12. Thanks so much for the link! Definitely ordering one now. The main reason for the 12 b switch is I’ve already ordered an electric wiper motor that runs on 12v, but I’m definitely open if there’s a way to run it on the 6 v system. Not sure if the vacuum system is running correctly right now. The wipers run slower the faster I go, and only ramp up when I let off the throttle. that’s just not going to cut it in the Pacific Northwest. ?. I also figured it would open up the world to me as far as getting a jump from a stranger in a pinch without blowing up my battery. thanks again for the response!
  13. Hey all, I just acquired a 47 p15 sedan and I’m working toward making it a semi-daily driver. I’ve already got an entire new cooling system on order, and I’m doing the brakes next week. anyway, I want to do a 12v conversion, and I’m wondering if any of you have an affordable kit to recommend. It seems like I can find anything from a wire harness with an alternator for a couple hundred bucks on up to the full kit for just under 1k. are the kits even worth it? Or should I just go grab an alternator and starter solenoid and go for it? what else would I need if I went at it on my own? Do I need to do anything involved to switch to negative ground? Any tips are very much appreciated! 3 speed manual if that makes a diff by the way thanks! alex
