  1. I can't believe no one saw the humor in that. Did you get as far as the guy that wanted to buy NOS bottom air for his tires because that's the only air that leaked out, since the top air was still there? Or the aftermarket smoke that's too lumpy?
  2. For all you British car owners; http://www3.telus.net/bc_triumph_registry/smoke.htm
  3. Good job! BBQ is a good reward for doing a nasty job.
  4. That big nut holds the cover on, but it doesn't come out of the cover. Once the nut is loose, the cover will come off, but it will need help. Its just stuck. When you get a new filter, (get the number off the top of the old element), and make sure you get two new gaskets with it. The cover gasket and the bottom of the filter gasket. The top cover has to be sealed perfectly and quite tight or it will leak.
  5. It doesn't matter how its oriented. Up down, or sideways.
  6. That sounds like a good fit. I'd use it without worry.
  7. Yes, it will affect your leg. Your leg will be attached to a dead body.
  8. If you have four nuts off of each side, you may just need a putty knife and a lot of nerve.
  9. Some people will just never learn.
  10. Sometimes you just get real lucky. But then maybe its because he knows a good guy when he meets one.
  11. Joe, if you have a temp control knob, make sure it is pulling the valve all the way open and not restricting the flow of water. Pressure in the cooling system will not affect the flow. The direction of the flow thru the core doesn't matter either on heaters without a temp control valve.
  12. About 4" so far today, but its warmed up to 28 so it won't be bad shoveling.
  13. High range is where high is on a three speed.
  14. Or the straw hat with the transparent green insert in the front of the brim?
  15. " Shifting between low range and high range while it might "improve acceleration performance" slightly, was never the way it was envisioned to be used." I find that pretty funny. As many times as I tried to hurry that old Hernando, using low and second NEVER improved acceleration, indeed, it slowed it down somewhat due to the wait for the "clunk" was doubled, especially if I had the RPM's up trying to go faster. Seriously, put it in high and sit back, you'll get there anyway.
  16. For years I drove a 49 Desoto with "TipToe Shift" and very seldom used the low range. The idea of the trans was to put it in high and drive normally, without having to use the clutch or shift lever. Unless you are racing from light to light, low range really isn't necessary.
  17. MMMMMMMMMMMM,,,,, hydroylick my bumber,,,,,,,,,,,, where are we goin' here?
  18. Yeah, that's it. Its a thing holder bracket gadget stiffener thingee.
  19. Yep, you got a heckuva deal this time!
  20. I had a hard time learning when to stop fixing things that aren't broke! Sounds like you're on the edge of doing the same thing. If your trans is quiet, don't disturb it.
  21. The split is there to make it fast and easy to change, you don't have to remove the transmission. Disconnect the shift rods and e-brake cable. Four mounting bolts in the bell housing, Pry the trans back about 1/2" and slide the gasket up the back of the bell over the trans bearing retainer. Line the gasket up with the four holes and put everything back the way it was.
  22. Indeed, its the PCV valve.
  23. That's a 1955 Century or Roadmaster by the four holes.
  24. I had to "force" my brackets together on mine and they did seem to be spring steel. They've been holding for about 15 years now with no ill effects. You could try it and see if it lines up that way. If so, go for it.
