  1. When I saw the '37 Plymouth video yesterday I emailed it to my Father. My Grandfather bought a '37 Plymouth 4dr sedan new. Dad came over for awhile early this afternoon and he told me that he can remember my Grandfather saying to my Father, "Calvin, do you realize that this car has been 10,000 miles without an engine job. Dad then told me he was going to a one room school house up the road from my grandparents dairy farm when he saw his Father drive by the school on the way home with the new Plymouth. He said that he couldn't wait to get home to look at it. Dad was 10 going on 11 when my Grandfather bought the Plymouth. Both my Father and his younger brother learned to drive with the '37. Dad also told me that his older sister was driving one day when she hit some rocks in the road and puctured the oil pan. Grandpa patched the oil pan and it lasted until he got rid of the car in 1950, when a new 1950 Plymouth arrived in the family. Just had to share my Father's memories of the '37 Bob
  2. Maybe if you take the speedometer out, you might be able to repair it yourself. Other than unhooking the speedo cable and the four little screws on the housing, it comes right out When I was removing mine for the Plymouth, the hardest part was getting myself situated under the steering wheel and dash to do so:(
  3. A while back I recieved a forward with the many uses of WD-40. One of them was removing residue from tape. Last Fall I used the heavy duty tape to take a cardboard pumkin on each of my doors on the Plymouth during our annual Pumpkin Parade. The tape left a heavy residue when I took the pumkins off. I didn't want damage the paint so I tried the WD-40 idea and it worked fine. I went out this morning and with my thumb nail the residue came right off with no damage to the paint. Just wanted to pass this along, Bob
  4. I must be brain dead, after I posted my question, I remembered that I have a parts book with all the part numbers. Low and behold, it is a 1940 Tranny, Thanks just the same, Bob
  5. The number on my transmission is: 853853-1 The engine in my '40 is a P-11 engine Can someone tell me if my tranny is a '40 or later tranny? Thanks, Bob
  6. With still having the transmission in my '40 and it whinning in first gear, slight whin in second gear and no whin in third, third gear is direct, so I am told it wouldn't whin. I guess my question is: What would have the tendancy to go first, the cluster gear or the bearings? I did check the oil in the tranny and it is fine? The pumpkin oil is at the correct level also. Thanks in advance, Bob
  7. I want to take time to thank everyone for their help. I had a good question asked me yesterday that I wasn't able to answer. Am I sure the tranny is a 1940? I know the engine is a P-11, but just figured the tranny was original to the car. It is raining here today, with rain mentioned on and off all weekend. I'll crawl under the car when it dries up, so I can look for some casing numbers on the tranny case. Thanks again, Bob
  8. Welcome aboard, this is a great site for us MOPAR owners, you will receive lots of heip from this forum. Great looking Chysler and good luck with it, Bob
  9. Are the cluster gears interchangeable from a 1939 floor shift Plymouth tranny to a 1940 Plymouth column shift tranny?
  10. I guess I worded it wrong, sorry about that. Are the Japanese make car companies unionized here in the states?
  11. Are the imports that are made here in the states unionized?
  12. My son Shane has a '51 Chevy 4dr sedan, which he has had for ten years. National Chevy is a great place to do business with as is the Filling Station and Chev's of the '40's. Not sure of their web addresses. VICCA is a national Chevy club that he might want to check into. They have a good forum also.. Hope this helps
  13. Thanks, I really appreciate all the help
  14. Years ago I had a repro metal sign that had the Green Lucky Strike Cig package. I gave it to a good friend of mine for helping me with my brakes a number of years ago. I haven't been able to find another one at any of the flea markets or flyers that I get. One anyone have an idea where I could look? Thanks, Bob
  15. Bob, Good luck to you and yours. I hope your Mother-in-law will be ok. My cousin is 67, just had a bad heart attack on Sunday. Don, while you are in Boston, have you ever seen the Grasshopper weathervane on Faneuil Hall? One of my ancestors, Shem Drown built it in 1742 Bob, one more thing, since you are a musician, have you ever heard of the Gibson Brothers? They are my cousin that had the heart attack sons. They play bluegrass and have been in Nashville numerous times. Again, have a safe trip and I hope all works out ok, Bob
  16. Bob, My two cents worth, I had White Post resleeve my master cylinder for the '40 about ten years ago. Very pleased and they were very good to deal with. Bob
  17. I took my Plymouth there in '99, had a good time, we have attended as spectators a number of times on Sundays. Rhinebeck has a very large vendor field, not to mention one heck of an array of antiques on Sunday. Greg, by the way, don't forget Norwich at the Chenango County Fairgrounds Memorial Day weekend. That is also a very good show both days with a large vendor field also Another one in my area is a one day show put on by the Rock Hill fire dept usually on the first Sunday in June. Also in June there is a nice show in Big Indian on RT 28. It is usually the last or next to last Sunday in June. These last two shows don't have much of a vendor selection, but fun to attend just the same
  18. Thanks Reg
  19. I haven't bid on anything on ebay for along time, I was under the impression that payment was only accepted thru pay pal. Is that correct? Thanks, Bob
  20. If that Caddy has survived 68 years in the northeast, and looks as good in person as it does in the photos, I would think it would be one heck of a buy. Keep us posted, Bob
  21. Congradulations to both of you on your first outings of the year. Isn't it great when you can get them out and go for the first ride of the year, not to mention the thumbs up by other people driving down the road:) My 82 years young Father and I were out in my '40 this morning for a 20 mile round trip ride. I also had the '40 out yesterday for a drive when I met a primered 1964 or '65Pontiac LeMans, we gave each other a thumbs up as we passed Rain here tonight and possible thunderstorms tomorrow
  22. My Father came over this morning, so we fired up the Plymouth drove about ten miles to a friend's sugar shack. Visited for awhile then came home. Just a nice day to drive the Plymouth and hang out with family and friends. Life is Good:) Bob
  23. Greg, At this time I plan on going to Rhinebeck on that Sunday and Norwich on Sunday also. I won't be bringing the Plymouth to either show. Bob
  24. I had my Plymouth out on Thursday. I drove down to the school to spend lunch time with my wife, then I had it out again yesterday a couple of times. Hopefully again today before the rain Arrives later this evening.
  25. Thanks for posting the photos, she is in darn good condition compared to my '40 when we got it over twenty years ago. Bob
