My cousin went to school for body work and he was the one that painted it for me, but the rear fenders and hood were painted off of the car. the doors were on the car when they were painted. Andy

Well it has been over a year since I last posted here, I have been busy with school in the winter and working in the summer. But I was finally able to finish the bodywork on my Plymouth. Now I need to purchase all of the weatherstripping and other rubber parts for the the car. It has been so long since I took this thing apart that I have forgotten how the stainless steel trim is installed. And how the glass sweepers go in. If anybody has any pictures of this it would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Andy

you don't have to remove the bell housing to get the clutch out but you will have to spin the flywheel in order to remove the pressure plate. I turned the flywheel with big screwdriver on the teeth which may not have been the best idea but I did not cause any damage, you could remove the spark plugs and maybe turn it by hand I don't know about that so don't quote me. I did not have to personally do the clutch I just checked it and reinstalled. I would put a new gasket between the housing and the bell housing just as cheap insurance against leaks. I thought it was a really simple repair aside from all the parts that need to be removed. one more thing be sure to get the drive line bolts tight I would suggest some locktite on them just to be sure. It is pretty easy to do the clutch in the car I took mine out last winter just to check before I put it back together. Get a clutch alignment tool and you will be good to go! the only tricky part I can see is removing the upper two bolts on the transmission, it wasn't an issue for me because I had the floors out but I am sure there is away around this. Do you have a picture? Sounds like a great cruiser.

Are you going to build a stand? maybe you could locking on casters on the bottom so it would be easy to move out of the way. So now that you have a buffer are you going to fix all the trim from your crash?

This thing looks really neat to me. I wish I could help but I am definitely computer illiterate when it comes to photo shop. did you use the roof and rear door from another car? Looks like it will be very cool.

The only good thing I see about this is that it has a cummins,but other than that YUCK!

It is spray foam used to fill in cracks in a house, but this person decided to fill my rocker with it and then use it to support the thin galvanized steel they laid over the top of the holes.

you could always fix it with this http://greatstuff.dow.com/greatstuff/diy/index.htm This is what my rockers were made out of when I bought the car. fixing this kind of rust really isn't that bad just break out the welder and a grinder and away you go. here is what I started with and this is what I ended with Good luck! and have fun.

Those rocker panels are not all that rusty. I am surprised being that its sitting on the ground.

Joe do you know which kind of paint is the most user friendly? I mean like a base coat clear coat or an acrylic enamel or even a lacquer.

To remove the paint I started with aircraft stripper and then as that got closer to bare metal I moved to a DA sander with 80 grit. the parts I did not do with a sander I did with a stripping wheel on my grinder or I sandblasted. I was shocked at how long it takes to remove the paint on these things the old primer underneath was very tough, even the aircraft stripper had trouble removing it in most spots. As far as paint goes I haven't decided yet I am looking for something that is not too expensive but will do a good job and not be very difficult for a beginner to use, I've never painted a car before so it could get very interesting doing this for the first time.

I do have some welding left to do I fixed most of the major holes when I did the rockers and floor pans. But i found some interesting things when I took the paint off, the previous owner liked to use chicken wire and bondo to fix just about everything.

Ha the color changes on about a weekly basis now, but don't be mad Ed but I am leaning toward cream I made a few rough photoshop edits in the fall and that was what I thought looked best.

I have been working of and on for the last sixth months and I have finaly finished removing the old paint from my car. When I first started I had no idea how long it would take, but I am finally getting ready to prime and start the long process of body work.

I agree with Rodney! I know you started with a mess but you are certainly no where near that anymore. would you like to come south and do the same thing to my car? Your work looks great, I am excited to see it with some color on it. Good work

That paint job is worth at least 87 horsepower. IMO
