  1. I got the right fitting today for the fuel pump outlet. I talked over my situation with an older NAPA guy. He said the best configuration would be to take my fuel line and cut it in half. Then install a NAPA metal fuel filter in the middle to connect the two lines. Now I don't have to flare a line.
  2. That's my weakness. I don't make decent flares. The closest the store has to 24" line is 30" brake line. Would an extra six inches be too much fuel line to be curving around in there? Maybe a brake shop would flare the line for me for a small charge?
  3. The Parts Manual says the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburetor is 24". The 5/16 brake line that I am using comes in 20" and 30" lengths. From what Rick said, I'm thinking of scrapping my Zenith fuel filter and splicing in a modern one between the fuel pump and the carburetor. So I would use the 20" line and cut it in half. I think the 30" length would be a bit too much line to have between the pump and the carburetor.
  4. OK, but on the filter, the IN side is 5/16 and the out side is 1/8 npt. I'll check it out. I thought the filter went up next to the carburetor.
  5. I have this old NOS in the box Zenith fuel filter, but I don't know how to connect it. I went to NAPA to see if they had the right fitting for it, but he said no. It is 1/8 thread on the carburetor side and 5/16 fuel line size on the inlet side. I would need a nipple that is 5/16 male inverted flare on one side and 1/8 npt on the other.
  6. I have some NOS 46-48 DeSoto Deluxe hubcaps on my my. At first, I couldn't put them on, not even by hammering them with a rubber mallet. Then I discovered that you can bend the clips in or out to make them tighter or looser. They are adjustable! All you need is a chisel or a large screwdriver.

  8. After looking at the above radiator again and comparing it too this chart, I think it has a cellular core, but not a honeycomb core. I didn't know there was a difference. My original DeSoto radiator has what looks like diamond shaped cells.
  9. I got pics of the after market radiator made for 42-48 DeSoto from NWOCP thanks to Sniper's tip. I'll put some of the pics below. Does it have a cellular core or not? I don't think this has a cellular core because I don't see diamond shaped cells. Otherwise, I think it's a good fit. It measures 23.5" from bolt hole to hole.
  10. A 41 Plymouth restorer made some good videos around ten years ago on how to do various jobs. Here is one on replacing the door glass. It doesn't really say how to remove the old glass, but maybe you can take it to an auto glass shop and have them remove it, and maybe install the new one too.
  11. Wish I could have gotten that info a few days ago. But if it's wrong I'll just re-order till it's right. Just for the record, this is how the DeSoto s-11 Parts Book describes the fitting. For engine numbers not between the numbers below - My engine number is 213562. Connector, inverted flared tube, 5/16" tube, 1/8" taper pipe thread, 1/2" - 20 thread, tubing end. I guess that means my engine did not come with the elbow version? But I don't see why I can't use an elbow. That 1/2" size is confusing me! For engine numbers 124436 to 129256 - Elbow, inverted flared tube, 5/16 tube diameter, 1/8" taper pipe thread, 3/8"-20 thread tubing end.
  12. I called my local NAPA. They don't have it in stock, but say they can have it by tomorrow. I asked for a 1/8 npt male thread with a 90 deg. angle going to a female 5/16 thread. I hope that's right. I will take my fuel line and fuel pump to verify when I go to the store.
  13. My fuel line is 5/16. The fitting that Sam shows is I think for 3/16 line. So who's right here?   14. Does anyone know where to get the right fittings for the fuel pump to carburetor connections. I need a 3/16 male to 5/16 female connection to go from the fuel pump to the fuel line. And preferably, it should be an elbow per Robert's pic above. No one seems to sell this size.
  15. I've got a good original 46-48 Dodge radiator that I just spent $195 on at the radiator shop, so it's good to go. I thought it fit my 48 DeSoto, but it doesn't. Has original cellular core and everything. $550.
  16. I saw it but didn't look at it until now because I thought the shipping would be prohibitive. Looks like a great company for sure! If the NOS radiator I just ordered turns out to be wrong, I will look into it.
  17. I went back to the radiator shop and got my DeSoto radiator back. He said the only companies making cellular cores are in Europe and would cost over $4 K! Then he showed me some modern core material that looked good and said he could rebuild my old radiator for about $1100 to $1200. I told him I just bought an NOS aftermarket radiator from a parts house in WA, but if it is the wrong radiator, I would be back. So I'll have to wait and see if the NOS radiator is correct.
  18. I'm going to go ahead and buy that NOS radiator. I can't call them and a big company like that is not likely to give me personal service. So I'll just buy it now hoping it will fit. If it doesn't, I'll return it.
  19. I looked at OReillys and found that the closest line they have to 26" long is this 30" long PVF brake line.   20. I just found out that the 5/16 line that screws into the carburetor does not screw in the fuel pump. What's going on there? Do you have to use reduction fittings to get it to fit? I just looked up the fuel pump to carburetor tube in the Parts Manual. The tube is 26" long with 5/16 fittings. My fuel pump can not take a 5/16 fitting.
  21. Do you think it would be a direct fit for my 48 DeSoto and look the same as the original?
  22. If it's NOS why does it have the wrong part number 4893? They don't even show a pic of it. If it is the right radiator, I would be interested because I just found out from the shop that my old DeSoto radiator needs a re-core. That's expensive! My rad. man has been having a hard time finding a vendor who sells cellular cores. They are not returning his calls. Does anyone know a vendor that sells cellular cores?
  23. Ask Les Pesavento. He is the 1929 DeSoto expert and he has owned many of them! He is a high officer in the National DeSoto club.
  24. I'm not exactly sure. Auto manufacterers continued to designate their cars by model number and names. For example, the DeSoto S-11 was made for the years 1946 -1949. I think refering to car as a '29 or a '48 was done more by the owners because most people don't know what the model numbers mean.
  25. Yes, I'll cut the hose with a razor blade, but otherwise is my metal fuel line setup like the original?
