  1. they are not easy to find or cheap when you do. I looked for about a year before I found one in good shape.
  2. I used mostly #665-1362 for the nuts, they call them U-nuts, but I also got some #665-1254 for where I needed a bit more throat or length I guess you could call it... Bolts are #665-3376 and they come with the washer attached most of my original hardware was coarse thread with a different kind of clip nut, but I like these more
  3. I just went and bought all new hardware at NAPA, the have the 1/4-20 J nuts and bolts to go with it, boxes of 25 each for like 11 bucks a pop. Not the cheapest route, but since I have my entire front end apart, I figured I'd replace every fastener. I can get you stock numbers if you want
  4. I'd also like to know since I have my complete electric wiper set up listed in the classifieds... it didn't fit for me
  5. can you braze new metal into the pits and re-chrome that?
  6. I wish my dad had been even remotely interested in old cars when I was in high school. I always wanted to have a project to work on with him, still trying to convince him...
  7. I paid about 800 to have my front and rear seats done
  8. no title and ran when parked... classic ebay listing
  9. if it's the same place I'm thinking of here in St. Louis, they do really good work for a really good price. A friend of mine had some pieces chromed there and they look great.
  10. What is the best way to check one of the 1-wire sending units to make sure it works? Mine looks to be in great shape, came with the tank I bought, but doesn't work... what should I be checking for?
  11. I would get one with a sealed bearing
  12. I don't know... it's written in chalk, so that seems pretty legit
  13. thank you
  14. what is the Roberts site?
  15. I'll give it a try I guess, thanks. I guess there is still no source for reproduction pieces?
  16. Sorry for dragging up such an old thread, but I'm in the process of doing all the paint and body work in the front clip of my '49 and was wondering how the rubber cove base material holds up over time? I have been wondering what I'm going to do for replacements and the thought had crossed my mind to use cove base but I wasn't real sure about it's longevity when exposed to outside elements, as it would be up under the fenders. Or, is there an actual answer to a source for replacement made to fit pieces? I plan on riveting whatever I use back to the inner fenders as I do not have a staple gun heavy duty enough to punch though the steel. Thanks!
  17. That's a great tip, and one I am definitely doing! Thanks!
  18. Sorry, mine has broken studs too
  19. I have an extra, let me find it and I'll pm you
  20. That doesn't even make sense. Because of Andy you street rodded a '47 biz coupe? And how did you know I wear panties, perv!
  21. it's funny because I've seen every example above on one forum or another
  22. Okay, it is bolted in, the steel clips on the trim are stamped to the stainless... A few of them snapped so I need to figure out a new way to mount it I guess... New question- The steel welting on the hood that goes on the front from the bottom to under the ornament, where can I get a new one? Mine was rusted beyond repair. The good news is that the hood turned out pretty well, only spent 11 hours working on it yesterday
  23. I'm starting paint work on the '49 tomorrow, so I'm removing trim tonight... On the hood, the lower piece of stainless under the Dodge letters, is that a snap on piece or does it bolt on? Can I pry it off those fasteners like the belt line trim? Or is it more like the studs on the fender rock guards? They are rusted on there pretty well, and don't want to snap anything I'll need later. Thanks!
  24. I've had a collection of old motorcycles, my fiance at the time was very tolerant of the mess of parts in the driveway and basement. One day she told me that since I have all these bikes and other things, she wanted something... an old car. I tucked that away in the back of my mind. We got married in 2009, so I was looking for one to get her as a wedding present. Found the '49 and it ran, so I bought it and stashed it at my buddies house until I got it drivable without her knowing. I sold one of my motorcycles to finance it and she never noticed the bike was gone. She loves the car, but still hasn't driven it. Says it needs seatbelts first. I'm working on it.
