  1. So that I understand, that includes V8 to L6 on interchangeability?
  2. 56 for Plymouth was the first 12 volt
  3. Thank you, Car looks to be complete. Hope to get a better look this coming weekend....only days they are pen.
  4. A salvage yard an hour south of me opened two weeks ago (edit: discovered it has been open since at least last summer) after being closed for many years. I went down today to look, and maybe pick up a few things for my 49 Plymouth. Someone bought a really nice DeSoto today, I think it was a 50. To the question, there was a 55 Plymouth with v8 and overdrive in the yard. I have no experience with early Plymouth V8's and wondered if the OD would work with the flathead 6's. Thanks Mike
  5. A good series from Keith's Garage. My go to You Tube channel for old Mopars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4L0NURxm64&t=18s
  6. Many companies make a WalMart branded product. WM came to our industry and wanted a basic product, at a much-reduced price, that they could sell for less than our national name brand product. Not saying your oil isn't Mobil1, but I don't think Mobil could sell it to WM at a price WM could sell it to you for $10 less than Mobil's product without making changes in the formula. Also have seen store brand tires built on the same line as a national brand tire. The store brand tire weighed about 10% less than the same sized tire of the national brand.
  7. I used the Newport in a P15 BC and it worked like a charm. Never any issues with it.
  8. I think there is some adjustment at the gauge. think I've read that in some of Chrysler's literature.
  9. I'd do like Jersey, but use chrome polish with the 0000 steel wool rather than WD-40. Then follow with a good quality wax...several coats.
  10. It's been 20 years so memory is a little foggy. For a 48 Plymouth Business Coupe I used a rear hatch threshold plate from a Yukon/Tahoe (don't remember the year). If I remember right, it required little to no trimming.
  11. I know this is an old post, I've enjoyed reading it. Getting ready to install a R10G-1 from a 53 into my 49. Would like to know if the two OD's discussed got straightened out and running correctly? Thanks Mike
  12. From some 1949 literature
  13. couldn't get both in one reply
  14. this is from some 1949 literature. May not apple to pre-war cars?
  15. I think those are supposed to be a little loose so they don't bind.
  16. That's the trouble with reprints, photos don't reproduce well.
  17. If you're in the Midwest, I've used Casper Brake and Clutch to rebuild water pumps in Kansas City. Good service and quick turn around. Casper Brake & Clutch Co | Kansas City, MO 64108 (casperkc.com)
  18. Welcome to the forum!
  19. If mine sits for a couple weeks I pull out the tender and hook it up. If I know I'm not going to drive it in the next two weeks, or so, I go ahead and hook up the tender. My garage walls and ceiling are insulated, and one wall is backed by a house wall, but garage has no heat.
  20. The guy I got the OD parts from said he had sold a water pump pulley and six bladed fan from the car the transmission came from. The guy buying the fan and pulley said the pulley was bigger than one from a non-OD car. Do I need to be looking for a fan and pulley? Mike
  21. Had no idea Leica manufactured anything but fine cameras.
  22. Always liked that 53.
  23. less than 1% of production totals
  24. I started work for a blimp company in 1969. Here is some data I remember about age from that time period. OE could not be older than 24 months when shipped to OE clients (big 3). Goodyear recommended not using tires after they reached 6 years old. I might be a little shaky on this part, after tires reached four years old, in our system, they were branded blem near the bead. Newly manufactured tires could be branded blem if it was a cosmetic problem rather than an age issue (lots of white wall tires then). I think the standard was a 10% discount to the customer for a blem tire. I know most of the guys I worked with all ran blems. Tires with known minor structural issues were branded non-highway use only, or farm use only. I think these were sold at a 75% discount to the non-highway market. There was a large dealer near us (a competitor of the blimp company) that sold farm use and non-highway tires to anyone. You had to bring in rims and carry the tire/wheel assembly out the door, they would not mount these on cars. I think you had to sign off that you know these were non-highway tires. As tires neared five years old they would be sold to third party vendors at wholesale in very large lots. Part of the pricing of these tires was based on how old they actually were. A tire three months past five years old would be priced higher to the wholesaler than a tire that was six months past the five year barrier. Sorry for the long post.
  25. Thanks for the help on an overdrive for my 49 Plymouth. I've purchased one for it from a 1953 Plymouth ($185). I've got the transmission, carburetor and switch, relay, most of the wiring harness, and only missing the inside cable. I guess luck comes in waves. I've got a line on another 53 OD setup, but the car in buried in the dirt up to the middle of its hubs (no wheels on the car). The OD setup is free, if I can figure a way to get the car up and out of the ground. It's in the middle of a tree row, in the middle of a corn field. It's also three hours away. Again thanks for the help!
