  1. you sure are a go getter on these! I just got my springs yesterday from Eaton...my truck won't have my original ones, but they look JUST like them (minus being sprung and rusty as all heck!)
  2. TRYING to...
  3. but then it wouldn't be a resto!
  4. thanks Merle, I will return to NAPA after work armed with these numbers. I THINK we ran across the 28116 but it was .038 "thicker" than the old one, but I assume they might squeeze/crush down abit when compressed and installed? 20766 also seems to (visually) have a smaller seal area.... Just got off the phone with Vintage and they don't feel that their parts will work...
  5. I paid a guy in town $20 to press out, press in and ream to size...
  6. that has been the problem, no numbers to go off of. My parts book doesn't even show the rear hub assembly for a a B-3-D for reference. The NAPA guys tried to go off measurments and didn't get anywhere, I'm actually sending one of each out to Roberts to see if he can match them up. I was just hoping for a quicker turn time.
  7. Anyone know where you can buy these bad boys? Roberts so far won't touch mine as my rear end seems to fall off their catalog and NAPA is a big fat zero.
  8. I think Roberts has one that might work: PN T269
  9. ok, starting to test fit parts prior to some major assembly time. I've noted that the brackets riveted to the frame for the front spring rear shackle are WAY loose for the shackle threaded bushing, in fact, they pretty much slide in. I'm thinking this is NOT a good thing. Thoughts? Can one find these cast brackets anywhere really or are they going to be a salvage operation? Can one "repair" them in any way?
  10. Ok c'mon boys back on topic!
  11. I can have them powder coated at work for free...won't the PC just flake off w/ flexing?
  12. so, a few presents showed up today over lunch at my house! My new springs came in from Eaton! Now, originally, on these trucks were they painted or left au natural? I can clear coat them, but I wonder if the flexing of the springs will just flake off any coating? as a second question: were the front axle, drag link and tie rod painted or left bare?
  13. I can't imagine what 1mph feels like! That is just so cool!
  14. LOVE the "scream/howl" of the F-104. I've always been partial to: and: odd how "futuristic" the planes of that era are but the cars were still coming of age.
  15. nice! I dream of the same day!
  16. what's that line about dogs and cats sleeping together?!??!
  17. it is a "premier" place here that I took it too. They do lots of race engines and such, so I'm sure their shop fees were a bit higher, but they do good work. I took the engine apart and brought parts in. For $1400 I got the following done: cleaned and magnefluxed the block ported honeed the cylinder walls to remove taper hardened valve seats balanced the crank new valves new valve springs new spark plugs decked the block and head repaired 4 small cracks in the block now I need (esitimated parts bill of $525): price went WAY down with the call I just made since I can now reuse parts! new rings new bearings (all around) new seals timing I will with the help of a few friends put it all back together.
  18. Merle you got off cheap! Just the block, head and crank work on mine cost $1400. NO pistons or bearings included! That bill will be around $1600 for all the parts (waiting for the lsit from them still)
  19. ok thanks for the tip(s)! Biggest problem I no weekends free till October!
  20. I doubt I can, she was pretty firm about wanting to get "out" of having to be there all the time...I SHOULD be able to "order" one from her possibly tho, but no way then since I wouldn't be pulling it to make sure it wouldn't have a crack as well....I'll drop a call today and find out, where were they that you remember JIC?
  21. alright , anyone have a spare manifold? Second HUGE crack as well (3/4 around)
  22. torched up my manifold today to loosen the heat riser and guess what I found? Almost the same crack noted here....several here said to get a diff (non cracked) manifold...how easy is that gonna be to find?
  23. Thanks, but one of our wonderful members has hooked me up already.
  24. do CarFax! I kid, I kid!
  25. ok, so....anyone want some high alloy washers?!?? I got a box of each for several sizes... I got the high alloy washers to go with the grade 8 bolts I got...I got a few of them as well... SOOO glad I found you guys! thanks again!
