  1. I do believe you have to remove the outer grill portions to do it, Andy. Good luck!
  2. You are correct, Don. It is closer to 2" offset on my car. I just remembered that it was offset. If it weren't, I'd never be able to hook up any kind of steering.
  3. Mine is, too.
  4. There is a 49 Chrysler Windsor Coupe for sale in Greensboro. If you're interested, PM me and I'll get you the details. I just spotted it in the classifieds this morning. Here is the classified ad. Windsor, 1949, 2 door coupe, runs good, GC, 70k orig. miles, $5,600. 336-375-5519 Good luck to anyone interested. Let me know if you come to Greensboro.
  5. It was a challenge. Adding the R&P made it tougher. The stock SB Mopar 340 exhaust manifolds cleared the OE steering column ok and it was above all the other stuff. I just wanted my car to drive better, so I did the RP. I'm going to be ok but it was tight, for sure. The exhaust didn't turn out to be as tough as I thought it was going to be. That's usually the case. I dread the challenging things and ponder them for a while. Then, when I actually dive in, it's not nearly as bad as I'd feared. Life is like that, too.
  6. Hunley Acuff will restore yours, or a donor set. http://hunleyacuffrunningboards.com/
  7. Amen, Bill. Nice job with the trunk! I love what you did. I'm trying to decide whether to relocate my fuel tank to the trunk, too. What is that gas tank from? I'm doing a '41 Plymouth with Small Block Mopar. Here's my build link. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=498434
  8. Very nice! Where did you get your upholstery material?
  9. Glad you got that, Andy. That was the part I tried to describe to you months back. I imagine they are hard to come by.
  10. What's that widget called, Hugh? I couldn't find it. Got a link?
  11. You will not be happy, if you're particular about how the chrome looks. Good chrome work is expensive because it is labor intensive to get all the pits out and get the bumper smooth before applying the plating.
  12. The manual rack is 4:1.
  13. Excellent job, Mark! I'll be reviewing that one when I reassemble my doors.
  14. To see the pictures and notes from my cavlier rack and pinion install in my '41, go to this link and page 15. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6669160#post6669160
  15. I can confirm they are 7 degrees. I used a protractor and eyeballed it.
  16. I did some searches but did not come up with anything. Does anyone know what degree taper is used on my '41 Plymouth tie rod ends? I'm making new steering arms and Speedway offers a 10 degree and a 7 degree. I'm thinking 7 degree but wanted to make sure before I plunked down $80 for a reamer. Thanks for your help!
  17. After finding out that it would cost me $1/inch for all of my stainless to get buffed (do the math on a '41 P12), I decided to buy a HF buffer, too. I'll let y'all know how it comes out when I get around to that phase. Hope mine turns out as well as yours.
  18. In chrome plating, you get what you pay for. Cheap chrome looks cheap and doesn't last. Good chrome is labor intensive plus they have to deal with a lot of environmental regulations. Good chrome is therefore, expensive. Advanced Chrome in TN is good, Advanced Custom Chrome in PA is good, Jon Wright's Custom Chrome in OH is great, expensive and slow. I've had good experience with all three of these. You pay your money and you take your chances.
  19. Thanks guys! I'll likely have a go at it when I get to that stage. I really want keep it traditional. It just looks right.............even though it's a hot rod.
  20. Is there someone who rebuilds the seats for these cars to "like new" spec? I have sciatic nerve and lower back issues and I need a firm seat. I'd like to go back with my original seats but I'm afraid the springs are too soft and the seat would not be comfortable on long trips. Thanks Rock
  21. I found a small castellated nut of the correct thread at O'reilly's. Also, as stated before, you should definitely do the shock relocation kit.
  22. Was it supposed to be 6 PM EDT or CDT? I forget. No matter, I'm still here.
  23. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/2307906851.html
  24. I'm in the middle of my install right now, BeBop. I'm using a manual rack. It has 4 turns lock to lock. What is the ratio on your's? Also, I have a SB Mopar 360 V8 in my '41 Plymouth. I'm going to have to convert to a front sump, I'm pretty sure. The '41 chassis is not symmetrical and I'm going to have to build an offset box for the mount, it appears. Everything is complicated.
