  1. Not that I'm planning this but... I drive a '49 Coronet with a fluid drive. Did they make a 4 speed truck transmission with a fluid drive? And if they did will it bolt up to the car's bell housing. My thinking on this with the granny gear of the truck transmission and a modern hiway geared rearend would you have the same results as an OD? Any thoughts out there?
  2. I just saw today a guy selling floor pan pieces on the ebay.
  3. Here is your taillight as shown on in an article someone is trying to sell on ebay. '49 Wayfarer Convertible. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1949-DODGE-WAYFARER-ROADSTER-Retro-Article_W0QQitemZ300184792703QQihZ020QQcategoryZ42606QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  4. I had a little different setup. I mounted a holley 94, 90 degrees from the normal position so that I could use my original linkage. The way I did it was took a bottom gasket and a top gasket to the local machinist and had him mill a piece of aluminum to make the fit. My set up was a little more difficult but I'll bet you could get a couple cut for around $60-70.
  5. I did not see in the article if he got the nut off or not.
  6. There are several Drano products. Some are enzyme and bacteria based for cleaning pipes. The clog removers are a caustic and I would be afraid to leave this harsh of a chemical in a heater core I would be afraid that is would turn it into swiss cheese. The Drano Build Up Remover might do as the mechanic says. http://www.drano.com/plumbing-problems/
  7. For those of you who like the Spitfire heads, here is one that I'm sure the seller doesn't understand what he's got, for it is not correctly listed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge-231-6-cyl-Spitfire-Head-Flathead_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQihZ020QQitemZ300175599692QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  8. Looking for parts I found a few cars if anyone is interested: http://www.themopardude.com/2025431.html http://www.themopardude.com/1989239.html http://www.themopardude.com/2033833.html
  9. No, they won't replace the money, but there might be an opportunity to reclaim the car.
  10. I'll bet when that "new" car gets registered some one will come a knocking.
  11. With counterfiet money the US Treasury takes that very personal. They will be very anxious to find the ol' boy who gave you the funny money.

  13. I've got a head from a '54 Plymouth that I had milled and getting ready to instal on my D30. While looking around in the pick'npull I found a '59 Plymouth with a 230 flathead. Looking at my books I see this head is already set up with 8:1 compression. A little more research and I discover that the recommended spark plugs are hotter than those for my '49 or the '54. I always thought that an increase in compression would create more heat and justify a colder plug. Can someone explain why the '59 with higher compression would take a hotter plug? Jim
  14. Turn one of the other ebay scams around. If this guy is in a hurry to get this vehicle have him send you the money Western Union.
  15. This is not a new scam. Ebay has warned about this one in the past. I will gaurantee you that the check is no good and by the time you find out the transport company has delivered your car and you are out the amount of the check plus the bank's service fees. Also don't sign that title until you have CASH. Jim
  16. I painted mine with fiberglass resin then laid the glass cloth over it. Did it 1/2 at a time and it worked well.
  17. I found 10w oil at my local NAPA. Here is the website on the back of the bottle. They might be able to direct you to some retailers in your area. http://www.smittysinc.net/ Jim
  18. With that 4 speed transmission you have plenty of room to go with a highway gear. That first gear was a granny gear that wasn't typically used except under loaded conditions. A highway gear would probably make first into a useable gear. Now comes the hard part finding a highway gear for that rear end. Maybe a later model rearend swap? Jim

    OT Ferd

I know it's a V8 and a Ferd, but you have to appreciate a dragster running a 60 year old flathead. Jim http://www.kansas.com/static/slides/111107wheels/
  20. Poking around ebay tonight and saw a local car for sale. I may have seen this thing 1 time on the road. Do you know it. Interesting he talked how good the motor was but didn't offer any pictures. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1948-plymouth-coupe_W0QQitemZ130168607728QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6387QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Jim
  21. Did you get the manifold and the linkage?
  22. In reference to the shotgun idea. I believe it would only be illegal if you were trying to explain the body. Where I live it's been known for a long time that the best way to take care of a dog problem is with a good gun and a tight lip.
  23. I'm beting there is an offset in the connecting rods. Jim
  24. Like you I have some reservations about the added mechanicals and electrics in the OD units. I am focusing on finding a 3.55 rear end and making the tires are the original diamater. I think this will slow down the RPM's and not interfere with my ability to climb hills. I have a fluid drive in the D30, I've already split the exhaust and gone to a holley 2 barrel carb. I have a milled '54 head in the garage and found a '59 with 8 to 1 compression in the pick and pull. I just need more hours in a day to do all the things I want to do.
  25. Here are some pictures from the Wichita Eagle of a 50 DeSoto. What is that mounted on the hump in the interior shot? Jim http://www.kansas.com/static/slides/102807wheels/
