  1. Either a radio or the heater controls. Or maybe some whack job like me out switches there for various things... Welcome to the forum! If you ask around you can always find something! I have a friend in central WI with a 48? 3/4 tonner fluid drive and a 2 ton dump he would love to sell! Happy hunting! -Josh
  2. Has anybody found an alternative to the factory electric or newport conversion for electric wipers? They are rather expensive... Ive had no problem with the vacuum, just the fact that vacuum wipers and turbochargers don't exactly get along. Thanks, Josh
  3. Id make it sound a tad meaner, most people that think v8 think loud hot rod
  4. have you checked out the referral section? There is always something on there, plus don't forget about the classifieds. It seems like they never really get the attention that they could.
  5. Works great on our little half tonners but Bumpside has a 1 tonner. Although a modern rear and such as a gm 14 bolt, only issue os width and original appearance. Could always make an adapter for wheels
  6. Just another thought, how about an NV4500? Its a medium duty 5 speed used by GM and Dodge, I think some heavier trucks even had the parking brake on board. Would take some engineering, but worth looking into!
  7. One big note here for the t5, you Probably have a four speed in that truck. Four speed bellhousings are not friendly, holes need to be filled and then drilled in new spots, a three speed housing just needs new holes drilled. In other words, you end up having to remove the bellhousing completely, which Is a pretty big project considering it holds up the back of the engine... I have a spare thats already drilled, but im in wisconsin and I somehow see shipping being rather spendy, but if you are interested send me a private message and maybe we can set something up. -Josh
  8. You should try search for this one, overdrives are getting very common. T5 is the preferred swap, I did it myself over winter break. There is a kit available for $85 or parts are readily made with a lathe, just 2 spacers and a sheet metal aligning shim only needed for drilling new holes. Only downfall is the loss of the parking brake. Good luck! -josh BTW, Feel free to ask about the t5 in particular, search is unfriendly for finding short terms like that.
  9. Sounds like a nice truck, but that price is a tad high. Check the windshield frame definately, fuel tank, brakes are a big ticket item. For that matter check the radiator too. For that kind of price it should really be able to drive I think. Either way good luck and have fun! -Josh
  10. I don't know about that, but I do know some people like to use electric pusher fans in front of the radiator
  11. That's what I was trying to figure, looking at them they would seem like they might interchange with a little help, but since the truck is pretty far away its rather hard...
  12. So could anybody else please take a look, maybe measure the frame just to tell me i'm not nuts? Thanks
  13. So one messed up thing on the old 41' happens to be the windshield frame. I have two sitting around, both shattered and both rotted at the bottom. I noticed though that they seperate top from bottom at almost exactly halfway. Has anybody tried to just piece one frame together from two good tops? Thanks, Josh
  14. If there was a good market I probably could get stuff together and start building more! Problem would be finding more turbos like mine, its Subaru performance stuff that I paid $5 for!
  15. Actually yes, he is a bit of my inspiration! Mine isn't built to wind up and make power, just to grab some extra torque and fuel mileage, plus its just plain cool! Theoretically forced induction on a poor flowing motor will make for huge gains in performance from naturally aspirated, and man does it do that! Only takes a couple pounds of boost through the stock engine...
  16. Mine is just a 53' half ton, nothing too special. That's the fun of it, going down the road nobody would be any the wiser...
  17. 1: 20-50w, an engineer I know recommended it and I never looked back, pressures a little high on startup but once things warm up it settles right down where it's supposed to 2: Regular unleaded, never needed to add anything 3: I have a canister type filter on mine, forget the number... 4: Autolite 306 5: Try vintage power wagons, I know they have a kit The search function may or may not help alot, I tend to find it rather fickle sometimes but its worth a search. Really we should almost have a writeup of general info like this, be a nice garage printout. Good luck! -Josh
  18. Sorry, I just bought them from a local 4x4 shop. But I do have links to them: http://www.jcwhitney.com/1946-1958-jeep-willys/spring-shackle-kits/p2005873d18864y1946-1958j1.jcwx http://blog.kaiserwillys.com/willys-jeep-parts-qa-leaf-spring-shackle-kit EDIT: I stand corrected, here is a page from NAPA. They are much more expensive, I paid $20 apiece for mine. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Leaf-Spring-Shackle-Assy-Rear-Susp/_/R-RPC35421_0276862781
  19. If you dont mind dropping the truck a little ways jeep cjs also use a similar part about 1-2" shorter, mine cost about $20 apiece and fit the same way
  20. It looks to me like somebody was covering something, such as the starter foot pedal hole? My 53' has a homemade sheet metal piece between the firewall and steering column, just a thought.
  21. I dont think a single thing is similar... at least thay dont look alike! Anybody else?
  22. I know its not a 53 but I know of a 48-50 with a fluid drive up by black river falls. 3/4 tonner, I think he wanted $800 for it? That or the same guy's dad has a 48' dump truck too. Best of luck!
  23. I have always heard not to use K&N except for race or high performance, evidently their filtering mesh is much larger than most. Breathes better but takes in more dirt. Green filters are supposed to be better for the long haul.
  24. Sometime In august would be great for me, hopefully I could make this one before going to school in September! Supplying nobody minds me taking first in the half-baked truck contest!
  25. Now if I could find a truck style one that mounted on the inner fender, that would be cool. But in the meantime I have a turbo that blows oil to deal with first!
