  7. I agree totally about adding a light oil to the vacuum line. I use air conditioning oil its designed to condition rubber not destroy it thanks Dale
  8. Guys, I am planning to use a vacuum canister from an s-10 they are a small sphere about 3.5 inches in diameter. It will hide under dash right beside the vacuum motor. In an 80's s-10 the heater controls are operated by vacuum. Your local parts store has replacements for $20. or less. 5 years ago I bought one for $14.00. Also I am adding a one-way valve to help preserve vacuum in the ball. So that when the motor has a vacuum loss, ie... climbing hills the reserve is kept. Dale ps. I have done this before it works. I believe grumpy Don C. has done this one as well.
  9. Mr. C you hit the nail on the head. The question should be ((( do you want a garage queen or do want a driver?))) aaa:cool: dale

  12. When I was a a teen my bud had a big block chevelle. He decided to put a huge intake with double carbs and electric fuel pump. Well he got the dist. 180 out of time. (well we think thats was the problem the car burned to the ground) He got the wise idea to pour a bunch of gas down the carbs it backfired and with electric pump and two 850 double pumpers with all four bowls full it ignited, and burned the car. The electric pump was at the tank so it kept pouring fuel to the fire. After that I learned my lesson. With an old car unless you really know your motor inside and out, a timing chain could have jumped time. ect... It's always better to be safe than sorry. By the way only if it decides to run, will it suck the fire in the chambers. Its a little thing called vacum. If you fill the bowl on the carb, your carb will do its job. The orginal problem was not getting fuel to the carb I filled the bowl it ran a couple minutes until the bowl emptied. It still did not pull fuel through the line. I had to prime the pump by sucking fuel through it. Yes, I need to replace the line, rebuild the pump, and maybe rebuild the carb. But right now I have running enough to move it around the shop until I get the new roof installed, and do the body work. I am an A.S.E. certified mechanic, and this ain't my first rodeo.
  13. If I didn't know better I would say Don Coatney lived in New York AS he get"" grumpier by th day"" :>} lol
  14. Hey pop I would hazard to guess that the back two top bows have been reversed when the top was put back on. When I worked at Carriage Works one the guys put a top on a MGA that ended up looking like that. He put the top up start from the top up , then started gluing the fabric on the bows one by one. When he got to the last two one will cross over the other one. One is taller than the other one, (thus the down hill effect). OT a bit ..... On Alpha Spider the last two bows are realatively the same length but if you cross the the top won't go all the way down. I won't tell you how I know that!! ps. the thing that I know from experience, is that when you put a new top on a car. One should lossen all the adjusting bolts. This makes the top sit as low as possible. Then after the top is put on and the sun and wind allows it to stretch. You have adjustment to make it tight again. (The bows may be adjusted as high as they will go ) Also this top is not canvas, and it looks like the old material has shrunk drastically. Jr.
  15. notice the oil filter, its a screw on
  16. Thanks for the pics pop!
  17. I have bigger issues to deal with right now, if have not seen the pictures my coupe is the one that the tree fell on. I am in the middle of 33 ford sedan delivery (flower car) that I am painting to make money. My car has to sit outside in the freezer at this point. I just start it every so often to keep her going and drivable. I have the top pushed up now, and have it almost cut off. I have a top from a doner car. sorry going ot the tanks has been done, and yes the fuel line will come next. dale ps. this ain't my first rodeo:o
  18. Guys, tonight I was by myself and had a two man job. We had the gas tank off the coupe clean and sealed the tank. However the fuel lines are a different story. They do not blow rust through but are still gummed up. Also the fuel pump is a little weak. If you don't start the car often the pump loses its prime. Well, I waited too long and could not get gas to the carb. When this happens I usually have someone else pressurize the tank while I crank the engine. Tonight I had no help. I have an air opperated vacum pump for air conditioning. The cheap one from harbour freight. It really works well! I unhooked the fuel line from the carb and slipped the hose over the vacum and after about 15 seconds I had fuel! Hooked the hose back up to the carb after the bowl filled back up it fired right up. Its definately not rocket science, but it sure worked quickly. Most importantly you don't have to worry about putting to much air pressure in the tank and causing a leak. Just thought it might help somebody else Dale:cool:
  19. No nomination required its just a given:D:D
  20. Don your the loving mentor I have always wanted in my life jr:p
  21. Guys, I want to put a three speed overdrive in my early 49 club coupe Here is my question. Many Vehicle manufacturers put Borg warner three speeds with overdrives in them. Is a borg warner t-86 r10 the same transmission whether its in a chevy or a ford or a stude or a mopar? I can understand that the input shaft may be different, but is the overall transmission the same? I would think either the input shaft could be swapped, and or... the tail shaft from a regular mopar 3 speed be removed and a od unit from another transmission be added. thanks Dale
  22. How far is Cuba Mo from Kansas city mo the after pictues look great wouldn't mind the the drive for that kind of quality If its not too rude to ask how much for the pair the bumpers on my club coupe are straight but shabby Dale
