Greenhouse gases and old Plymouths....kinda OT
PatS.... replied to Mr. Belvedere's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I don't much have a problem with it going into landfill, BUT, if they put it all in one place, as in your example, all the glass, bury it in one spot. One day it WILL be economical to recycle and then they would know where it was. All the wood in one spot, all the metal etc etc OR, make the manufacturers take it back via a deposit like bottles. Maybe GM should be the ones figuring out what to do with thousands of airbags, and Ford and Honda etc, not you. -

I was at our local landfill yesterday with a few things the garbage men won't take and beside me pulled in a roll-off truck with a 40 yard bin from a recycling center in a shopping center. He dumps it and it is FULL of corrugated cardboard that people collected and delivered in the mistaken notion that it wouldn't end up in a land-fill. Everytime I read about these new regulations, I fell as if they are just blowing smoke up my a$$. Along with global warming and the war on terror, it won't be long and we will need "papers" from the Gesta...oopps...Government to blow our noses. Worrisome. -
It's a 47/48...46 had a different grille. What gives it away? Everything. It's a totally different car than the Dodge, designed and built by a separate company built on a separate assembly line. Take two pics of each car and compare each panel and every little peice of trim and you'll see the differences. Check out the very tall hood, the fender sweeps into the door. My Dads 46 Chevy (Mom standing beside it at Golden, British Columbia, 1956) Before it was painted Godess Gold and Alpine White: (that's me and Bonzo on the bumper) (from the bed by the window)

They say the world is ending Dec 21, 2012, so it won't matter much:eek: -from the bed near the window -
Here's an old ad for the Peckat visor...the Cadillac of visors:

With the recent hefty rise in the value of our Canuck Buck, there has been a big rush of crossborder shopping. Most car companies have forbidden their US dealers to sell new cars to Canadians to protect Canadian dealers. Also, US cars don't meet certain Canadian equipment standards and can't be registered. This personal importing may not be for the weak of heart.

Yes, WELCOME!! Looking forward to the pics...and as an "old" trucker, maybe some of your rig, too.

Don, On the AACA site, they have a forum called "What is it?" Very interesting forum and they ID some pretty obscure vehicles and parts. Might give that a try. http://www.aaca.org/

Can you still use the original clutch pedal and column shift?

Rob, according to my Canadian Parts Book, your car is a P31 DeLuxe. The serial number sequence for the P31 DeLuxe starts at 97,000,001 to 97,001,300 The original engine would have been a 218 with a bore of 3 3/8 and a stroke of 4 1/6. All Canadian cars used the 25 inch block, so you could find a 251 for a bolt in upgrade. Pat (the guy who told you about this place) More info on the differences between US and Canadian cars: scroll down to "Who Says 1949 to 1952's Are All The Same?" http://www.allpar.com/history/plymouth/plymouths-1949-1952.html

1948 would still be the M5, the M6 came out with the 49's. This is the M5 out of a 1948 Chrysler And this is my 1949 M6: (courtesy of Ritchie Hodge) Much the same except for the wiring.

And it may have a bit of blow-by:eek:

How Good Is 6 Volt System In Cold Weather??
PatS.... replied to Norm's Coupe's topic in P15-D24 Forum
My original '49 Chrysler first belonged to my Uncle, then he gave it to my aunt, then my Dad bought it and then finally, me. My aunt and uncle were well off and had a double garage even when the car was "new" to them (it was a demo bought in '53), so they had little starting problems and my uncle owned an Esso Station so it was tuned all the time. When my dad bought it in around 66 or 67, we had a little single garage but it was full of crap that 4 kids accumulate (dad was none to happy about that) It became apparent the first year that the old Chrysler had no use for our winters, which were much more severe in the 60's than now. I guess part of the problem was that he used his company truck to get to work, so the Chrysler would sit for a few days between uses. The night before a planned winter use was a bit of a procedure. He would start it up as soon as he got home from work, though it usually needed a boost. Run it untill it was warm, shut it down, place a few old furniture moving pads over the engine and rad and plug it in. Then, before he went to bed, he would go out, take off the pads and start it again and let it get warm and then put the pads back on and go to bed. He brought the battery in and placed it by the heat register. Until about 3am when he got an old roaster pan filled with BBQ briquets and light them, and slide them under the oil pan. And even after all that, it was still touch and go whether it would start in the minus 20 to 40 temps. And the there was the snow to deal with...or not. The car always had good winter tires and that car was pretty heavy, but it would get stuck at the drop of a hat on flat ground. Frustrating. After 2 years of that, he just parked it on the street for the winter or in my grandfathers garage. Too much of a PITA. He wouldn't sell it though...my aunt made me a promise that he was obligated to keep. He had to sell me the car when I got my learners at 14. I had to wait until 15, but I came up with the $300. I seldom drove it in the dead of winter either. In the middle of July at 80 degrees, if you threw a snowball at that car, it would get stuck and not start!!!! We did learn one thing though and that is that a Fluid Drive WILL start with a push to about 20 mph!! Did that a thousand times in that car. Now, if a car did that to me it would be off to the crusher, but that old Chrysler just had something special Summer 1972 Glenmore Park Calgary -
They have a few Vintage Vehicles, with a background on each, except for this little Route Van. Nicely done, though. http://www.steamwhistle.ca/homedelivery/index.php

That's a great lookin old brute. Be fun with a Dodge Cummins diesel and some chrome stacks...love the bumper, too!!!

Rod, I am not lucky enough to have the Chrysler running. Hell, it's only been 4 years...maybe this coming spring if I continue on the mend with my arm. The rad I blew was the one on my Dodge Ram pick me up truck circa 1988. The top tank has a 6 inch gash out of the tank seam. I guess the minus 28 was a shock on an old rad. This plastic Chinese rad might last the winter...if I'm lucky...it doesn't instill any confidence in me it's so flimsy and crappy.

Have you taken a close look at the stock front suspension? All the parts needed to rebuild are available, disc brake kit is available, shock relocation and you have a new independant front suspension with disc brakes. No cutting or welding involved. Thousands less expensive and as safe as the Volare. Something to consider

How much competition would there be if the Chinese government did not subsidize 100% of the shipping costs? China is a long way off and shipping would be a deal-breaker if they didn't pay for it. And WHY would they do that? Simple, there was no war and they destroyed our manufacturing ability 100% What were the main targets for our bombs in Europe in WW!!?? What's next? Who knows but we won't like it. Maybe round up every world leader and put them in prison during the Olympics? Who knows.

For anyone considering fulltiming it in a bus, this blog by a couple who volunteer all over the US for the Red Cross(recent Cali fires, Catrina) and live full time in a very unique 2 story bus is very entertaining and informative. Some good video's aof a train in Mexico where they load the RV's on and tour the Copper Canyon. http://ourodyssey.blogspot.com/

OR, you could buy a big a$$ bus built to live in and tour the warm states in winter. Vancouver or Ontario are not options for me. Maybe the Okanagan, Kelowna is nice but more expensive than Calgary which is hard to do. 1 degree f here right now (9am) on the way to a balmy 10f...warming up to 17 by Friday. Yuck

And also a hair trigger from having all the equipment crated and sent to China...just a matter of time I think.

Charlie, if I can make a suggestion on this list. Although I had no issues with getting the parts here in Canada, for some who can't get the numbers crossed, if you could give the vehicle applications for the rotors and calipers and pads etc, I'm sure even the most inept partsman can get parts for a specific vehicle. Just my 2 cents (canadian) Pat

I was lucky enough to have blown the top tank off my pick-up truck rad this past week. I called the local Mom and Pop parts store and ordered a new one instead of a wrecker item I normally would get. Price: $217 can I go to pick it up and the first thing I see on the box? Made In China I tell the guy I don't want it, I want a domestic made rad because I want it to last more that a month. I am told that as of last summer, there ARE no more domestic rad makers!! All aftermarket rads are now Chinese:eek: So we get talking and it comes around to brake rotors. I always buy Raybestos because I have had every Chinese rotor heat score and start pulsing badly within a very short time. I want domestic rotors. I am told that Raybestos now has their rotors manufactured in China as well and that leaves NO domestic brake rotor maker left in North America!!! My heart sunk into my stomach, I guess I am going to have to start hording the good ol' domestic stuff for my vehicles until...hell, I don't know when. Soon all our manufacturing will be in China and if there are ever hostilities like WW2, WE ARE FU**ED!!! We won't be able to make our own clubs to beat an enemy with. All China has to do is say, "No more stuff for you"!!! Not impressed at all.

As a matter of fact, I DO feel priveledged to live here, although I question my sanity on sub-zero freezing days like today. 1 degree F at 3pm!! If I was closer, I would gather everything up for you and send it...maybe someone closer could help you out.
