  3. Have a look at this R&C article: http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/135_0501_1951_plymouth_suburban_wagon/index.html
  4. You have to click on "Go Advanced"
  5. Glad to hear the good news, John. Hope you don't take a whole year to get back in shape. Go for a drive in the roadster every day...that big grin will speed up the healing process!!!!
  6. The opening ceremonies of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olmpics, a really big deal in my home town. It was a glorious time, for sure. http://www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/OtherSports/2008/02/13/4843773-sun.html
  7. This one involves my first 1949 Chrysler while my Dad owned it, about 1967 or 68. The dead of winter, 20 below and the car has to be put in the garage. Well, he thought he would drive over to the store and get milk and cigarettes for the next day as well. 30 minutes later he walks in the door, just frozen and covered in snow. Mom says, "What happened, did the car quit?" "$h!t!!!!!" Dad says. He had left it running in front of the store and walked home!!!!!
  8. I think the ECI kit allows for the clutch.
  9. None of us here EVER use bad words:rolleyes: I go into a state of shock if I see or hear those technical terms. That's why everyone uses those funny symbols so as not to offend!!! Like Buddy Hacket says, if you drop an anvil on your foot, somebody, somewhere will say F**K!! If it's not you when you drop the anvil, it will be the paramedic who comes to take you to the hospital, or the doctor who treats you: "Holy S**T!!, You dropped a F**K*NG anvil on your foot!!
  10. Relax, ...as soon as you go through all the BS of replacing the pink slip, it'll turn up!!!!! Right where you put it!!! Happens to me all the time. I keep Mr Murphy in business.
  11. I just sent the fluid coupling and clutch from the 1950 DeSoto parts car I have to a fellow in Eatonville Washington to replace the faulty unit in his 1939 Scoopmobile 3 wheeled Front End loader. Never heard of the Fluid Drive being used in anything but the Mopar cars and trucks. I know the engines are used in many applications but this was a first for me...learn something every day. From what I understand it's like this one:
  12. That's just funny!!! I was looking in the background to see what kind of tires were on his mobile home, but can't. Lots of things in this world to be upset about, but in my world this ain't one of 'em. It's just hilarious is all:D
  13. Dear Ma and Pa, I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled. I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 AM. but I am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing. Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there's warm water. Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, But tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food plus yours holds you till noon when you get fed again. It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on "route marches," which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks. This will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting.I don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it.You don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes. Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home I'm about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake. I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6" and 130 pounds and he's 6'8" and near 300 pounds dry. Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in. Your loving daughter, Carol
  14. My condolences, Fred. My thoughts are with your Mom and the rest of the family. This is a hard time. Vent all you want. Pat
  15. I like it. Always thought they were too tall and a nice chop makes em look good, kinda like the new 300. I have to say though he lost me with the skirts and lake pipes. I am impressed with the fact that it isn't abandoned with no top as are many of these type projects. Seemed like it was in very good shape to start with as well. As far as white shops with lots of light, well mine has two coats of cheap white on the walls and so far 22 tubes of flouescent and 8 more on hand to go up and I would like about 10 more after that I would like a light color on the floor as well, but it has had lots of spills and I don't have the motivation to clean it well enough to paint...so it'll have to stay as is.
  16. Looks good, Joe. I would be inclined to back them off a bit if it were mine. No real point in having them that distorted IMHO. I would also use a lock washer I think. Your progress is really impressive. Thanks alot for keeping us up to date. I know it keeps my interest and enthusiasm up and I learn alot as well. Thanks again and keep 'em coming!! Pat
  17. That's my FIRST question now before I buy anything...car parts or not. From a reputable seller or not. "Where is it made?"
  18. Seems to me that most export models came from Canada. There should be a tag on the firewall saying "Made in Canada" If both engines are the 25 inch block then they are interchangeable.
  19. That's no factory car or even a professionally done car, that's a backyard parts is parts car, done from a 4 door (the front door is definetely from a 4 door) It's a good way to get rid of various and sundry unwanted parts and flog the bastard child result as a one-off in this Internet/Barret-Jackson world of gullible people. Good luck to them. If they sell it, I'll build a clone from the 50 DeSoto parts car in the backyard here...I need the money Maybe it was a group therapy project at a rehab clinic
  20. "Now for the really interesting aspect of this listing. It belongs to my sister who received it as an anniversary present from her husband, and yes, though it has been quite disturbing a gift...they are still married! It comes with an extra passenger who likes to ride in the back looking out of the window. She has been by MANY and been captured on film though it doesn't appear as clear when I zoom in on the photo with my scanner. The photos of the Ghostly Girl will be included in the sale along with other materials documenting this unusual vintage car. Just a warning for potential bidders....if you plan on storing this cherry vintage Buick in your garage, please prop a door open as one of her favorite things to do is lock you inside the garage! She must love the company. Also, the pet dogs won't ride in the car, either." http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HAUNTED-1953-PERFECT-BUICK-SPECIAL-8-ORIGINAL_W0QQitemZ290204728972QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290204728972 So, as far as attention-getting gimmicks go, that leaves an antique water truck with spawn of the Loch Ness monster in the water tank, and a logging truck with the Sasquatch outline embedded in the grille!!!!! Neither has been done yet.
  21. I would think it was a cookies problem...and that's the extent of my computer knowledge
  22. Great news, John!!! Thanks Don.
  23. Made in China?
  24. Sellers No Longer Able To Leave Feedback On Buyers!!!! From the eBay announcement: "Evolving Feedback The final set of changes I'd like to share with you concern Feedback. There's a lot of passion – in the Community and in the company – around the Feedback system, so I think it's important to remember our ultimate goal: We are evolving in many new areas so that eBay remains a vital, thriving marketplace that buyers will prefer over all the other choices they have on the Internet today. To give you some background, the original intent of eBay's public feedback system was to provide an honest, accurate record of member experiences. Over the years, we've adjusted the system to add non-public means of providing feedback to try to improve its accuracy. For example, we instituted Unpaid Item Reports in 2006, and that has helped us to hold buyers accountable. But overall, the current feedback system isn't where it should be. Today, the biggest issue with the system is that buyers are more afraid than ever to leave honest, accurate feedback because of the threat of retaliation. In fact, when buyers have a bad experience on eBay, the final straw for many of them is getting a negative feedback, especially of a retaliatory nature. Now, we realize that feedback has been a two-way street, but our data shows a disturbing trend, which is that sellers leave retaliatory feedback eight times more frequently than buyers do ... and this figure is up dramatically from only a few years ago. So we have to put a stop to this and put trust back into the system. But I think – and I'm sure you'll agree – that the most compelling reason we need to change feedback is so that buyers will regain their confidence on eBay and they will bid and buy more often. We explored a number of solutions, and talked to eBay's founder Pierre Omidyar, who created the Feedback system. He agrees that bold changes are required to fix Feedback. And that's exactly what we're going to do ... here's the biggest change, starting in May: Sellers may only leave positive feedback for buyers (at the seller's option). I know this is a huge change, but we're also putting into place protections that sellers have wanted for years. In addition to holding buyers accountable via non-public seller reporting tools, such as Unpaid Item reports, we are planning a number of other Seller Protections against inaccurate feedback: We will remove, not just de-score, negative and neutral feedback when a buyer doesn't respond to the Unpaid Item process We will remove all negative and neutral feedback and comments when a buyer (or seller) is suspended. We will also do this retroactively – which means any negatives and neutrals you've received from members we've ever suspended will be removed. For sellers with an established track record, we'll prevent negative and neutral feedback within 3 days of listing end to promote communication. We're going to reduce the number of days a member can leave feedback from 90 to 60 days. We'll increase block bidder list capacity from 1,000 to 5,000 user IDs. We'll increase our monitoring, and take action based on seller reports of buyers behaving very badly. Feedback percentage will be based on the last 12 months, although the total count remains lifetime. This means that any negative or neutral feedback left for you more than 12 months ago will no longer affect your percent positive. For more details, please see our information page. Repeat Feedback Credit The last change to Feedback that I think you'll love is that beginning in February, we're going to give all members credit for multiple purchases with the same buyer or seller when the listings end in different weeks. Sellers will now get the credit they deserve when their great service and selection results in repeat buyers." http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200801290559182.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you actually read the feedback of the person you are dealing with on eBay, the nature of the reputation comes through. Retaliatory feedback is quite obvious and usually doesn't affect whether you will deal with the person. This is a very bad move for eBay.
