  1. Jon, my car started recently smoking from the oil fill tube, not the road draft tube. I haven't had a chance to work with it-- what with all the stuff that's been going on after the tornado, etc. I was going to change the oil, clean the cap on the oil fill and then remove and check the draft tube. It had never smoked like that til a few months ago. The motor was rebuilt probably 20 to 25 years ago, and has worked well ever since I've had it. It first smoked after a 30 mile trip at speeds of 50 to 60 mph. But after that, it would start smoking after just idling while sitting in the garage. So ... another mechanical mystery, at least to me.
  2. I always thought "mechanic" was a noun......not a verb.
  3. Chet, glad the car did OK. Lots more fun cruising than sanding, etc.
  4. Apparently it's name is Murphy. Another hint about being a Chrysler is that ridge at the bottom of the left front fender where a piece of stainless trim is located. 1951 Chrysler Saratoga
  5. I just ordered a windshield gasket from steele for the P15 convertible - it includes the piece in the middle. Price was $175 - plus some more for shipping. I think the total was $191.
  6. Looks like fun so far.......glad you finally made it OK.
  7. it looks more like a chrysler to me.
  8. condenser, i think.
  9. Greg......it's their version of chili over spaghetti. Their chili is fairly mild so as to please the most customers. But you can spice it up to suit yourself. Don't know what they do in Cinci or the Lone Star state, but this stuff is popular around here in the good old "Show Me" state, southwest corner.....on old Rt 66. Fred, glad you solved your mower problem.
  10. Yes, the chili place - Fred & Red's - is still open. It's also for sale as the owner is wanting to retire. But it's tough to find a person wanting to operate such a place evidently. They say some folks want to buy him out, just to get the chili recipe, then sell it on the internet in brick form. It only has a horseshoe shaped counter seating about 20 people....you stand around the walls to wait for a seating vacancy to occur. Eventually your patience pays off.
  11. The most distinctive thing about that clock is the "hump" on the bottom. I guess there would be a corresponding dip in the dash opening.
  12. The original plan says the garage is 23 x 27. Don't know if he's making it any larger or not. He did expand the square footage some from the original. The house is supposed to look about like this.......only with the garage on the other side.
  13. Hard to say, Chet. The builder once said maybe by December. Our outlook is......it'll be done when it's done. Whenever..... At least this house we're living in in Anderson, MO has a drive in basement, so I have a place to use as a workshop/garage to tinker with stuff.
  14. This has nothing to do with your problem......but here is a Toro that'll mow your yard in nothing flat. And it's a dump truck too. Seen in an area town.
  15. I think so......as far as I can tell. Hopefully will have enough $$ left over to build a detached two car garage also. Will just have to wait and see. It's been pretty much impossible to go out and buy new "stuff" to replace things like furniture as we have no real place to put it. Will have to wait til the house is done.
  16. Yep....... early electric fridge, and to left a real "ice box". My grandparents had one of those early refrigerators with a different style cooling unit on top. Then, in the 50s, my family purchased a genuine log cabin near a river about 30 miles from where we lived. It had a real ice box - so we had to carry blocks of ice when we went there. Had a pan underneath to catch the water as the ice melted. It was wood on the outside, not metal. Had some metal on the inside, though. Just thought some would get a little fun from the pictures. I did not notice any dashboards up above, but don't think I actually looked at that area. Was busy with the burger and fries. It was nice to get away from all the recent and current stuff we've been having to do. Still more to go darn it.
  17. There were indeed some nice cars there Steve. Thanks for the pics.
  18. You old timers will know this item, but the "young whipper snappers" may not. The item with the round thing on top.......
  19. I think the town was called Frankston......these trucks were sitting by an antique store. Apparently this one gets used as a Christmas decoration, judging by all the lights.
  20. We got to take a week vacation to the Tyler Texas area last week. I was chauffeur for my wife and two of her friends, one of whom has a time share membership. Therefore, we stayed at a resort place on the shore of Lake Palestine. It was a nice area, but hot.....triple digits every day. Luckily, the air conditioning worked OK. One day, we ate at a fairly new Mexican restaurant in Tyler called Chuys, a small chain. One portion of their dining area is the "hubcap room", so I decided to look for a P15 cap. And, by George, there was one. With a 57 Plymouth cover to the right. Taco bar there was the rear end of a 59 Ford. Another day we were traveling around the countryside and I spotted a P15 two seat coupe. Pulled in to take a picture, and the owner came out----said the car came from Shreveport, formerly owned by an older lady. It was in fairly good shape, with a non original re-done interior. Not for sale. One time, ate at a What A Burger restaurant which had a automotive theme. At least, part of a 57 Chevy. And a real street rod inside........built from a nice looking original. (I know, not everyone's cuppa tea)
  21. Nice video. I noticed the different placement on the trunk lid light.
  22. Except for the wheels, the coupe looks pretty stock....on the outside. Thanks for the pics.
  23. Sorry to hear of your loss. At least you have your good times with him to remember.
  24. Looks good. I always hate to see P15s where guys remove most or all the stainless. It just doesn't do them any favors, in my opinion. That bumper thing turned out pretty good......I always thought the Chevy bumper would be a close substitute.
