  1. Did you notice that on the cutaway places, someone had taken the time to paint the edges white, along with the fact the entire engine looks to be a light grey color.
  2. Regarding the indicator light on the turn signal unit, mine didn't work on the first signal I had......so I went to the flasher connections, ran two wires to two extra add-on pilot lights placed at the bottom edge of the dash. They don't look original, but they do let you know if a light on either side is still blinking. There are other more imaginative ideas around for alternate indicator lights. Yes, do check your grounds and connections on those front lights. Are your bulbs still securely in the right position within the light - could they have vibrated to an incorrect contact??
  3. Here's a Pontiac straight 8 of about the same vintage........
  4. That little dashboard with gauges might be a clue.....I can't place it, except maybe Pontiac.
  5. Lookin' good there Glendale.
  6. Well, Ed, that could have been a reason. That never crossed my mind. Usually that piece tends to be long gone, if the car has been messed with at all. Just thought these tidbits of info might be helpful to someone out there. There are always bits and pieces hanging around that you wonder - now where did that go?
  7. The best (and most expensive) window rubber comes from Steele Rubber Co. Some other places seem to sell the Steele item for a little less than Steele does. But theirs is a first rate product. Here's a link to their site. http://www.steelerubber.com/
  8. There is a springy flat-ish clip that goes below the lid of the glove box that helps make it pop open....... When the P15s were new, they had a cover over the back of the ignition switch to prevent the wires from contacting other wires and shorting out. The pole sticking out is the one to which you would attach accessories.
  9. This is for those who bought an old Plymouth (may apply to Dodge and others also)....with most or all trim stuff removed and in boxes in the trunk, back seat, etc. I was looking at the back side of a spare dash I had that was blown out of my storage building into the yard and damaged in the process (darn tornado). It occurred to me that there are some odd items on the back of the dash that are similar to washers in their purpose, but different shapes. These rectangular things are used in conjunction with the chrome trim around the glove box and speedometer. The round ones are found behind the Plymouth plastic nameplate above the radio grille. And, when reinstalling the ash tray, the housing part goes behind the radio grille.......... That round "Special Deluxe" badge is held to the radio grille with four studs and speed nuts. The glove box latch is a trinagular affair held on by a couple small nuts and bolts, and has a bolt with a round, pretty flat head, as a catch. There are also a couple little rubber bumpers at the corner of the glove box opening. Anyone who wants to add to the list please feel free to do so.
  10. Looks to me like that Dodge in the lower picture still has a bunch of decent looking dash parts, Robert. That steering wheel isn't too bad either. As some may, or may not know, stuff from a Canadian Dodge will fit a P15 since they are really the same car.
  11. As I recall, it can be taken off but there are holes for attaching tabs. I would go look, but can't find my radio grilles right now -- packed into some plastic tub, or somewhere, after the tornado. Will probably be December sometime before the house gets done. Then, may be even longer til the detached garage (where the Plymouth stuff will reside) gets built. I need to begin sorting thru buckets and other containers full of small parts that got picked up from the garage floor or the neighbor's yard. Just last week, I ran onto a guy I know who acquired some old Mopar stuff from someone in an area town. Amongst that stuff are some n o s P15 radio grilles.....a couple smooth and a couple ribbed ones....still in boxes. I plan to try and buy a couple of them if not priced too high. The owner had not decided what to ask - so I said I would check back. ****P.S. Just found a pic of the grille with ribbed trim......shows the mounting holes for trim.
  12. Just in case you might want to get a vacuum wiper motor rebuilt, here's a very good place to do it..........Ficken Wiper Service. http://www.wiperman.com/
  13. Now, there's an idea........... Some pretty original thinkers on here.
  14. Well, just to show that my memory isn't all so great, when I called the steering rebuild guy today, he said it might run about $250, give or take. Said if I brought him a gear box (we have 2 spares) he would inspect it and give his opinion on it's condition. He said he has the seals, etc but not a new gear.....those are pretty hard to come by nowadays. So, at some point, I think I'll take the gears and get his opinion.
  15. Ed, I'm going to stay with the 1967 Ford "Springtime Yellow" as I think that particular shade looks good. I think the original Charlotte Ivory is a little more tan-ish and a little more pale. This will be it's third paint job in that same color.
  16. I think the steering gear box in the convert probably needs to be rebuilt. Has anyone had this done by some company or individual? Am going to check with a company in Springfield, MO for their price, which will be in the $300 to $400 range as I recall from a past conversation with the owner. Don't know if that would be a good price or not.
  17. Good article, Rodney. Thanks for sharing.
  18. One model of the P15 radio grille has a ribbed or grooved strip that matches the ribbed strip on the glove box door. The other is smooth instead of ribbed. Does anyone know when one style replaced the other.....which came first?? (the chicken or the egg?) The round Special Deluxe emblem can be added to either type.
  19. Somewhere, perhaps at the first of this forum in the reference section, is a list of later model Mopar rear ends that are good fits.....may have to change the spring perches a bit. I believe Mr Coatney has one such later model setup in his car.
  20. "Bob have you given any thought, to a color change this time around? Not that it is'nt wonderful the color you have now.....but this gives you an unlooked oppurtunity to shake things up a little." ---Frankie47 Yes, I've thought about it on occasion since the car was Sumac Red when new, (like 2nd pic) but I really like the yellow.....so will just do it one more time. Some other colors on converts =
  21. That is an unusual gasser......pretty cool looking even though not a Mopar.
  22. Here's the '47 in 2009, serving as the official "parade float" for my wife's high school class of 1959. When I got it in 1973. And, currently, with tornado damage and other issues being repaired.....
  23. Have you at least measured the width of the seat cushions, both bottom and back cushion, versus the space available in your car? I'm thinking a late 40s car may be larger than one from the early forties.....but don't know that for sure. Or, is the seller close enough you could simply go by and try the seats to see if they fit???
  24. Also in the show room was this Dodge power wagon type truck, on a Chevy 4x4 chassis. This 37 Plym coupe was in the back......has Chevy Power....... Also in the back room, a 53 Buick convertible they are making from a two door hardtop.....using the top bows, etc off a real (but very rough) convertible. If anyone is interested in looking at or purchasing any of these cars, let me know and I can get you in touch with the seller.......however, his phone is listed on that fact sheet for the Chrysler.
