  1. Last night, at Barrett-Jackson, a Navy Ambulance was sold for $132K. That ambulance is claimed to be the same one that carried JFK's body, from the airfield in DC, after it arrived from Dallas. Now, there is a hearse, listed on ebay, that is claimed to be another JFK assassination related vehicle, which carried his body from the hospital to the airfield, in Dallas; asking price $1,500,000. http://tiny.cc/j8zf4
  2. ATTENTION:::: I have sent the following letter of inquiry to the agent seller of the 1940 Ebay Plymouth Suburban:: Hello, are you saying you believe this "suburban" to be a factory original vehicle? Our P15/D24 Yahoo Online Group has voted this to be a total after market version of someone's idea of a retro fitted sedan wagon. The back seat is just another front seat and the two jump seats are mounted on the rear riser platform of the trunk. If you have other information proving this is an authentic Plymouth factory Suburban, we would like to see it. If you can't prove this car's "suburban" provenance; we respectfully ask you to stop falsely representing it to be a "suburban". If you want to call it a "suburban"' please also identify it as a Phantom Suburban. Our car company historian, Don C, is very touchy about these types of claims. Thank you, Charlie Olson, Secretary, The Wood Car Company
  3. Didn't sell. I wonder what type of offer they would accept.
  4. Thanks for the extra effort to create such pristine photos, of the untouched snow. That is especially appealing to an AZ person, like me. My favorite view is the middle one.
  5. Heading due East of the Res, there are four man made lakes, 30 - 60 miles distance range, connected together on the Salt River. From West to East they are Saguaro, Canyon, Apache and Roosevelt; with many miles of coast line.
  6. Hi All, here we are in AZ, in the middle of Auction Madness; great fun. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I came upon a very nice P15, by accident, while driving PLYWOOD, on the Pima Res back roads. I'll let the photos speak for themselves, except to introduce Freddie Lewis, Patriarch of the clan compound, standing in front of his Dodge pickup, currently being prepared for a new paint job. Enjoy.
  7. Have any of you ever seen a Plymouth Suburban, with a wood trim interior? Me neither. I like it, a lot!!! On the Bay: http://tiny.cc/vkrkl
  8. Well, if the weather isn't too harsh, I usually put on my shorts, tee shirt and flip flops and bravely drive PLYWOOD all over the Valley of the Sun, hoping that I don't get even that one drop of rain on the windshield. One morning it was so cold, that I actually had to drive PLYWOOD with the windows closed. Almost didn't think I was going to make it back home safely. I am just not used to driving PLYWOOD with out my arm resting on the door, out of the window. Picture is from Christmas 2010, when it got down to a bone chilling 52 degrees.
  9. Hey Young Ed, I live right next to Chandler AZ and I could take a look-see of this nice little vert, for you. Shucks! I could even deliver it to MN, when I come to "lost in the fifties" in June, right? Charlie, driving that PLYWOOD in the 2nd Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction Road Rally
  10. Hi all, I first saw this car and met it's rather very nice/eccentric owner, at a North West Woodies Get Together in July 2004, in Washington. He has driven this car all over Canada and the USA. His name is Tevie Smith and he is always on the road traveling with his very unusual T&C; Termite Taxi. I think I remember reading that he has slowed down a little, due to his age; not the car's. Here is a link to an interesting article about Tevie: http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/arts/story.html?id=02f306cd-5f68-4472-82d8-af9524003ec1 Also, I found a recent picture 2006 of his car at MoPar Madness. NOTE THE "LOOK AND TOUCH" SIGN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW. I also found a few FLICKR interior shots of Tevie's Termite Taxi; NO TO BE MISSED!!!!!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmv/4868774739/in/photostream/
  11. Hi, I called CC about the news stand voucher offer, for new subscriptions, and they let me renew for the $12 fee. If you do that also, use the "pull card" code #: CNBL211. I am now renewed for only $1 per issue.
  12. Hi Jon, one of favorite car memories is when I came over to meet you and Kathy, with our two cars; way back in 2004. Thanks for checking in, MoPar Buddy.
  13. Today, on my 67th BD, as is my tradition, I drove over to Scottsdale, to renew my yearly memberships in the VFW and the AL; visiting with Post friends and having a BD beer. I had a few nice coupons for ice cream sundaes, from the 5th & Diner Diner, that I had received in one of the Toys for Tots car runs I had entered, before Christmas; that I would not be able to use, before they expired. I decided to cross over the 101 Freeway, to go to the Pima Res, to find a family, to whom I could give these ice cream coupons. As I was driving on a road between the Res Cotton Fields, I saw a handmade sign that read Fry Bread, Indian Tacos, etc., at a mobile home compound. I slowed down, turned into the very next driveway, which was obviously part of the same compound. As I pulled in, preparing to stop and backout, I looked directly at a very pristine P15 Deluxe four door sedan, painted that light "Pea Soup Green" color; parked in an open quonset type car port. It was beautiful, even had WWW tires, a matching color sun visor and shiney trim/bumpers. I shut off my car, got out, took a few moments to calm all of the barking dogs and tried to guess which mobile home to approach, to ask about the Plymouth. I decided on the very front mobile home and went and knocked on the door. Being as I already know how to properly introduce myself, the Native American way, I was greeted by Mr. Freddie Lewis, the Patriarch, of the clan compound. I told him I came to the Res to share the ice cream coupons and had come to his driveway by pure coincidence (meaning God's way to me). I told him about PLYWOOD and asked about the very nice P15 parked in his compound. The car belongs to his Son and DIL, or was it Daughter and SIL? I can't remember. Turns out, Freddie Lewis and I grew up about 15 miles apart, in the towns of Superior and Ray AZ, in the early fifties. I have been invited back to meet the owners of the P15 and bring PLYWOOD, for a photo shoot. While there, at the compound, I noted several other MoPar vehicles, including a complete P15 parts car. So, this coming Saturday, weather permitting, I'll go back and meet the owners and get to know the family better. Today's experience is just another example of the really wonderful situations I have been in when simply meeting up with other car type people. Freddie owns a 1968 Dodge truck that is almost ready to be repainted and he has always preferred MoPars. As I drove away from the compound, I had a good laugh because I could have enjoyed those ice cream coupons, myself, now that I am going back to the Res, just across the freeway from the 5th & Diner Diner, on Indian Bend Road. I shall add some photos to this thread, after the Res photo shoot. Happy Birthday to Me!!!
  14. HHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMM!! I was just fooling around on Craig's List and came across this interesting fiberglass stage prop P15 Convertible: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/cto/2136232649.html A possible P15 T&C???
  15. I am wondering what a P15 version of a Chrysler, Town and Country or a Ford, Sportsman would look like. Maybe even a roadster version. If a person were to build such a vehicle; what would be a good base model to use; A coupe, two door sedan, convertible or what? Just thinking.
  16. After reading about and seeing the major flooding in NE Oz, I want to send my sincerest hopes for your safety and well being.
  17. Yep! That is one fine Phantom Woodie. The gentleman who owns it, lives in Stillwater, MN, and I had the honor of seeing his car while visiting him, a few years back.
  18. Hi, here is a great MoPar site, which has a short, but very informative home page. http://www.allpar.com/history/chrysler-years/1945-1948.html Chrysler Corporation built some very good post war cars and trucks. Charlie, Social Secretary, Wood Car Company Owners Club
  19. You might be alluding to the nearly famous Wood Car Company, of Oregon City, Oregon. Some Wood Car Company custom built cars have actually been recognized as authentic and published in several national car club magazines. It takes a certain imagination to conjure up an imaginary Woody car company.
  20. "down here" as in 'down here where I live'; as opposed to where any one else is located. General rule of thumb is "over yonder", if'en it ain't over by you. Charlie, over here
  21. Thanks for your combined input. I think I'll concentrate on just enjoying the two events and maybe just get a car I can use for the Summer and then resell it. Hauling cars is expensive, I am learning. I should stop watching the Barret-Jackson reruns.
  22. I am thinking about going to MN to attend the "back to the fifties" and the Rochester POC meet up and I got to thinking that I might be able to start a hobby/job by buying a few rust free SW cars (MoPars), bringing them to enjoy during the Summer and sell them to cover my vacation costs and maybe a little bit more, for my time. Any of you know some one who is already doing this type of mini-biz? For example, I might be able to get this 50 Biz Coupe for less than the asking price: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/2123748482.html Any ideas, warnings, suggestions would be appreciated. Charlie Olson, thinking too much
