  1. It's not terribly uncommon to have this happen. Don Bunn even mentions in his book that this happens. Why - don't know, just know it does and not all that infrequently.
  2. Dog Gone! You stole my idea. I"ll be using bed liner on the insides of my fenders and running boards as well. And all the time I thought I came up with this idea on my own. Trucks lookin good.
  3. Many of the manuals you're looking for are online on the DPETCA website. Which may help until you can find paper copies. If you haven't looked already, there's a lot of helpful material on the Dodge Pilothouse Era Truck Club website: http://dodgepilothouseclub.org/know/know.htm
  4. Here ya go. This is what $26,500 looks like: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=331.2&aid=284&pop=0
  5. $40,000 and no radio?! Wow, I wonder how much it would have gone for if it had a 610-T in it. rare: haven't you see the term "rare" in ebay? When used it means the person is expecting an over inflated price.
  6. Went all through Don's book last night and couldn't find any info about the tailgates or the center support.
  7. Dang! Now I guess I'll have to look it up in Don Bunn's book and see if I can find the answer.
  8. I think the high side beds had tailgates with a center support. The low side bed didn't have one. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone here will tell me.
  9. Here's the barrett-jackson ad for what $40,000 buys you: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?aid=283&ln=693&pop=0&it=1
  10. For you Northern Calif guys - a whole truck in pieces, You can reassemble or use the parts. Didn't think it was too bad of a starting price and sounds like he may come down even more. I don't have any more room, but someone else may be interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1951-Dodge-PU-w-Volare-front-subframe-w-disc-brakes_W0QQitemZ320354647657QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item320354647657&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A-1|39%3A1|240%3A1318
  11. You're right - soldering would be a great way to go for those of us that have lead soldering materials to work with (which I do) and have the ability to lead ( which I barely do). Mainly the idea is to rid the seam of rust forever. It's difficult to clean out and once rusted seems to become a reoccuring paint problem area.
  12. Got another nice idea from Sean at Basix Hot Rods here in town. His floor pans were rusted out. So to fix it he found that the floor from a '77 Ford 150 Ranger would fit with a little trimming. Looks like it's going to go in pretty nicely. He has a site on myspace with lots of other pics of his truck. His narrative is from the point of view of the truck. Kinda interesting. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=402772551&albumId=471301
  13. Had a chance to visit Mark and Sean of Basix Hot Rods here in Santa Rosa. Got one technique that I'll be using on my truck and wanted to share it. My roof seam is full of rust and I wondered how I would get it cleaned out and keep corrosion from coming back. Welding the seam seems to solve the problem. They were working on a Ford cab at the time so here's pics from that.

  15. A great lookin truck. Anyone would be happy to have that on the farm. By the way Tony - What's the progress report on your truck?
  16. I received an email from Don Bunn's wife a week ago and she said it was alright to share the following information with the group. Don had major heart surgery a few years ago and after his recovery his personality began to change. Though he will deny it, his wife shares that he has been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer disease. He forgets many things and can't finish projects. She ended up finishing his last book for him though she knows nothing about trucks. I personally know from my correspondence with him that his emails are losing coherence and are not always responded to. She had to respond to my last two emails. I thought the group would want to know this since we all think so much of Don. Keep him in your prayers and also his wife as she indicated that life is becoming more difficult now as they deal with this disease.
  17. Enjoyed hearing about your Sunday drive. And congrats on 42 years. I found these pictures and they seemed to relate somehow. Maybe a few years earlier??
  18. Here's a nice sleeper Pilothouse. No one would know until the light turned green. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/featuredvehicles/trucks/mopp_0008_1953_dodge_b4b_pickup/index.html
  19. I've been looking at how to setup my ebrake. I think you gave me the answer. Great progress on your truck. It'll be ready to drive for spring.
  20. correct, the rails are for a 'lil red, yes they would look good on a pilothouse, though I tend to like the style on Reg's a bit better.
  21. Here's a slightly different set, yet to be installed: And Here's a whole different approach:
  22. Jim, You've probably given us the most informed pictures and narrative on doing a volarie front end so far. Thanks for the excellent pics and write up.
  23. I think flames have been overdone. it's time to give them a rest now. no flames.
