Norm this thing is huge, Fit an entire front swaybar in it from a 1990 Mustang, it was too tight to blast it though, rims will be no problem. Plan to keep it outsde, cover with a tarp, when not in use. Don't mind it taking up room in summer, as my garage is 24X34, but in winter all the vehicles are in there, so it will be outside or in one of the sheds..........Fred

Hi all, a friend from work called today, he has a custom made blasting cabinet he does not want, I tell him I cannot come over and get it today, so he delivers it to me, now that's a true Gentleman. The cabinet is a floor type, large with lights, and proper venting, it came with 3-5gallon pails of glass beads, price 24 of high-test Canadian Beer, (Now you US boys close to the Canadian border know what I mean), what a bargain. I will post pics of it later, but does it ever work slick, tested it out, and man it does a nice job, the cabintet is a little large, but what the heck the price was right...........Fred

Hi all, yesterday while checking my engine at the Uncles place he gave me a back window form and unidentified vehicle. It is smaller than the PDCD Coupe window, is curved glass, not sure if it is Chebby (GM), Furd, Mopar or ? It has no markings on it, it is brand new NOS, never used on a car, he bought it many years ago at an estate sale, probably a 40s or early 50s car of some type. Any idea, how I might ID this window, would like to sell it, as I have no use for it, and someone with one of the cars it belongs to, could have a new non scratched unweathered window.............Fred

Bill you may have answered this ? before, I have an engine from a 1955 Fargo Truck, engine 3 T335 2184 C, is this a 228 or a 251, it has the Partial-flow oil filter, so I am confused, I always thought the 251s had the full flow filters..........Thanx Fred

Hi all, last night I fired up the 47, through a jerry can in the trunk, idea was to go buy gas for car and lawn tractor. I was going down my road, got about 2 miles, car starts the running low on gas dance, turn it around go home. The gauge was reading just under a 1/4 tank, my gauge shows 1/8 of a tank when empty,(need to correct this). So I am close to home, engine sounds fine, turn around and head back to gas station, car runs out of gas about 1 mile down the road. This time it stops, I wait for the wife:mad: to come, and go get gas in the jerry can, I then put a few gallons of gas into the tank, the tank was run so dry I had to prime the car a couple of times to get the engine started to pump fuel back up, what a pain. I will not allow my car to run dry again:o , I kinda wanted to see where empty was, I need to correct the gauge/sender unit, I did have a loose wire, on the gas gauge, tightend here, and the gas gauge withabout 2 gallons of gas dropped to just over 1/8 of a tank of gas. I then drove back to the gas sation, bought more gas and the gauge is showing just under 3/4 as it should for the amount of gas I bought. I wonder if my fuel pump may be going bad as well, the gas tank, and all the lines are brand new, show they should be fine, the carb is rebuilt, the fuel pump is old and not touched, it's the type without a glass bowl. Now I am waitng for Don C and Tim Adams:D to tease me over this one......Fred

The best part is eatin em:D , no other fish like it in the world, they sell in the store for about $7.00 lb for fillets, I can get it for fillets for about $5.00, right from the fisherman, or better yet go catch my own. The trophy walleye here will get up to 16 lbs, I have a 10 pounder on my wall, the Cats can go up to 40 lbs, my personal best is 28 lbs on medium tackle, took about 40 minutes to get it into the boat, what a fight, what a thrill........Fred

Just a few miles away in The Red River, this river is full of trophy Channel Cats, and in fall, Giant Walleye swim into the Red River from nearby Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba is renowned for Freshwater Fishing, and some sea water fishing in the Hudson Bay, cuz we are also a seaport province, Churchill Manitoba, on the Hudson Bay.

As a matter of fact, I am form a fishing family, my Grandfather was born in 1894 on ship bound frome Iceland to the United States (SS Lake Huron), he became a Commercial Freshwater Fisherman)

Roar, what condition is your bottom rad hose, is it collapsing at higher rpm/speeds, the rad I sold you was cleaned and repaired before I shipped it you. Is it possible this rad is still suspect?. Maybe the flow is okay, but maybe it's heat transfer abilitiy is not what it should be? Does your engine cool down at lower speeds, or does it only get hot on the highway going faster than 80 kmh (50 mph). You have covered most items, block clean, new head, waterpump, timing issues maybe a problem. Is your heat riser stuck in the wrong position? Usually these engines tend to be bit coldhearted, but some of the guys, myself included have gone through bouts of overheating. I really believe running without a t/stat could make these engines run hotter.

Hi all, took a ride to where I keep one of my flattie engines, it's still on it's 1955 Fargo 1/2 ton truck frame, wioth the tranny, diff and front suspension, basically a rolling chassis. It is outside but is heavily covered with a big tarp:rolleyes: , pulled the tarp off, engine still crank over, not seized, I added a little oil onto of each spark plug galley, to keep it lubed in this area, to keep moisture out. Anyway, I am looking the engine, and see, the brass water dist tube, so I say's to my Uncle, can you get me a piece of rod, with a hook on one end, he brings me one out. I mention to my uncle, if I can pull this tube out:rolleyes: , it will tell me a what is going on inside of the cooling system on this engine. I place the rod into the water tube, hook onto one of the slots, and just barely give it a tug:cool: , and the tube slides right out, as if I had just put it in yesterday, it was brass, very clean and in great shape:) . Go figure my spare engine, the tube slides right out, not so in my current engine incar, it took a lot of persuasion to get out:D ..................Fred

Clothespins=No more Vapor Lock coincidence, I think not;)

Greg, because I have a 1951 Dodge front suspension, there is currently no Anti-swaybars, plan to mount the one from the parts car, but have not done so yet.........Fred

I did a grease job on my 47s front end, still squeakin, what else should I do, it's coming from the front end somewhere. I retightened the shocks. Besides greasing all of the zerks, should I spray penetraing oil all over the springs, control arms etc.....PS I do not have a radio for my 47, so I can't turn it up to deaden the sound squeak.............Fred

They are the identical blocks, a 218 or 230 has plenty of meat to be bored to a 251 so I have been told, but maybe my source is incorrect........Fred ps But Bill W would know
-
In Canada since 1937 Mopar built all L head 6s using 1 block, the 25 inch long block. They created several different engine dispalcements, by having different bores and strokes, ie 218s had the same bore as a 228 but had a shorter stroke. There were also 251s, 265s in Industrial applications such as forklifts and combines. You could create a 251, or a 265 using a 218 block, this wotuld be accomplished by boring the cylinders out, using a 251 crank, and rods.. Chrysler Canada, no doubt only had the one engine block, as we do not sell anywhere near the volume that was sold in the USA, so for economics, and simplicity, we had one engine block size here...........Fred post the engine # that is cast into the top left front of the engine block, I wioll see if I can tell you what it came out of and what displacement it may be, sounds like you have a 230 ci........Fred

Welcome to the forum, sounds like you have a good game plan there. The floors are not that bad to deal with, if ou can weld a little, and shape tin, thats half the battle. Good to see young folks like yourself takin an interest in old Mopars with Flathead 6s..............Fred

Glad to hear you were able to get the right pump, price sounds good too........Fred

Tim you are bang on, actually a number of older folks remebered these cars, 1 guy said he learned to drive with a 48 Chrysler. I met a guy, about 70 years young, he has a few Mopars, a 47 D25 sedan, a 1950 Plymouth, showed me pics, but he did not bring the cars. He was complaining about how the flatties are hard to start, and how they get fuel vapor lock in summer, he seemed to be a real negative guy, no wonder the cars weren't there. There was this either 1922 or 1926 Studebaker, Model (not sure of the #), it was a roadster, it was still in primer, a cool old car, the the owner only had the car going at 40 mph down the highway to the show. Lots of Furds, Chebbys, and 70s muscle cars. There was a real Cherry 1932Ford , with a SBC and 671 blower, tubbed wit the big wide tires, a real beauty. Oh well even if mine was the roughest there, I still had fun, got some attention to the car, and drove the 11 miles there and back no problem.........fred

Hi all, just got back from the Lilypad Cruisers 7th Annual Show and Shine. About a 100 vehicles showed up, I was in the first 50 so I got a dash plaque. The weether is great about 80 and sunny, we left early as my 6 yo son was getting antsy after a few hours. There were some beautiful cars, with fantastic paint jobs, engines etc, I was the only old 40s Mopar, no other flatties, my car looked like a piece of junk around most of these great looking restos, but I still had a lot of people lookin at the car and asking questions. Sorry I did not have a camera with me, it was a fun first Classic Car Show.................Fred

Hi all, af riend of mine was just quoted a rebuild price of $3800.00 for his 251 Flattie, this includes new pistons, bearings, cam, guides and valves all machining ,the works. I figure this is kinda high, I believe I was quoted around $2500.00 the last time I enquired about having one of my flatties rebuilt. The engine parts are form the US, and the tune of $1900.00. My current engine in my car has miles, but the compression when last checked, was good average 100, the oil pressure is strong 40 to 55 psi, she doesn't burn oil, but leaks oil like crazy. I think I will not be looking at a rebuild for a while on mine. Being that my engine is not rebuilt, should I go a lot easier on her than if she were rebuilt, what I mean is highway cruising speeds and rpm, should I keep her below 60 mph and 2800 rpm..............Fred

Okay, I now realize it's the backing plate, and not the pump itself...........Thanx Fred
