Okay, I have no axes to grind, nobody to convince one way or another, just wanted to simply share something with you guys I am currently testing,"Spraying Rust Enamel". I am no expert, with next to no experience in automotive painting, but I am the type that is willing to learn, to test, to try and to succeed hopefully. There is only one thing that stops a lot of folks from doing things, that mayor may not be successful, that is "Contempt Prior To Investigation", that makes me try and do nothing new, in areas I have not been before. I know that Rust Enaeml is not as good as High Quality Auto Paint, but being on a limited budget, and wanting to learn to do things myself, I am will to try unorthodox approaches. I see value in all of the comments, I am intersted in experienced facts, not opinions or speculation. In other words, "TELL ME LIKE IT IS", not what you may want to believe it is. One school of thought would have us all on "straight pepper diet. and one would offer us no flavor for our fare". So different strokes for different folks. The bottom line is this, if I go ahead and paint my car with rust enamel, and it doesn't work out, I can sand it down, and have Maaco or myself shoot on auto paint, and if it works out okay, all the better, I will be a happy man, even if the car has a 20 foot paint job on her, trust me, the bodywork and prep will make or break this paint job, more that my paint..............Fred

No but the Netherlands has pretty lax laws regarding Drug Use don't they.I am not criticizing the Netherlands, but every country and culture has differing values/opinions on issues. In Canada and the USA, long guns, are and have been traditonally used in Hunting, we still have plenty of hunting in this country, Europe probably does not, as the animal populations are probably thinned way out to what they once were. I am not going to speak for the United States, we in Canada have different ideas regaring firearms, but it is always the responsible lwa abiding citizen that has to pay the price for the criminals and mentally ill people that hurt and kill others with things sucha s firearms. In Canada, you can use lethal force, if there is a serious threat to your life, and you have no other choice, but this must be demonstrated as a means of self-defense. I do not currently own firearms, many of my neighbours do, I used to own a few friearms in the past, the red tape is too much, I am not huntng anymore either, so I don't have any guns right now. I am fully trained in a number of firearms as a Federal Correctional Officer, as a Peace Officer, I don require any permits to use, or carry firearms, while on duty in a Federal Prison.........Fred

Robert, I disagree with the current Candian Long Gun Registry, it is a complete waste of valuble resources that could have been used by Law enforcement, the RCMP and Corrections, it is a dismal failure, most Province do not enforce it. Hand guns have been restricted and regulated since world war 2, the criminals do not get there guns legally. I personally believe in cases where there is no room for any doubt, the killer should get there "just desserts", Robert I see how killers enjoy there lives years after the victims have been dead and there families are still suffering from there losses..........Fred

Tim these sicko type aresometimes so warped they figure there doing the kids a favor or something totally carazy rationalization. My brother is an advanced care paramedic, when he first started this career some years ago in Winnipeg, some whacko killed his 3 kids, put hem in there beds, as if they were sleeping, killed himself, and the cat, my brother attended this scene, very distressing things to see, he has seen many homicide scenes. One time he gets this call into the ghetto, there is a drunk guy with a big a$$ Ford Bronco, standing there Drunk, smoking his cigarette, and guess what si lying beside the vehicle, a 6 year old boy and a 6 yo girl, both dead, one kids brain matter was attached the Broncos bumper. Enough said of this, my brother has seen a lot of gore, I have seen some, working in a Prison, humans can be extremely brutal to one another.........Fred

Yes we have the right for self-defense in this country, and yes we elected the current governments, but once laws are encated, they are sometimes very impossible to remove. Theis madman killer, has no criminal record, was working as Mcdonalds, also delivered the Edmonton Newspapers, was known to be a friendly type of fe;llow to co-workers and associates, if there was a death penalty in this country, he certainly would not have been deterred. He is obviously a very mentally ill psychotic, don't get me wrong, and I do believ in just desserts, and the Police should have let him have it, and saved the tax payers a lot of money. I think it would be diffficult to use mens reus or actus reus in this case, this guy had to be full flight from reality. I used to work in a Provincial Jail ( like a county jail), the gallows were are still in the building, lots of rope notches in those beams.

Again Bud, for the price of the paint, you can buy a cheap polisher, and give her the buff a few times a year, I don't leave my vehicle out in the sun all day, but I no some have no choice but to leave there outside in the elements.

Hemi Orange would be something like Tremclad or Rustoleums "Real Orange", go for it..........Fred
-
Tremclad is not only made different now, it has more uv protection in it, as well it is more fade resistant. The paint I am currently using is Home Hardware Rust Coat, it is a Urethane Enhanced Alkyd Hi-gloss enamel, and when I intorduce the wet-look hardner made by Evercoat, it should help a lot with fading in the sun, and my car will not be sitting out in the sun all day long anyway..........Fred
-
Again, the one who started the roller paint job craze, has had one of his cars a 1969 Beetle, painted with Tremclad Rust Paint since 1999, with no fading whatsoever, the car is loked after , and is inthe garage when not in use. No doubt in the California/Arizona/Texas sun, these paint jobs would fade, but so would a cheap auto acyrlic enamel paint, and the auto paint would fad first..........Fred

To Greybeard, Chucky07 Joelokie and the Pilothouse gang. Hi, did a test run using Rusto Enamel Elcheapo Gloss Black Paint, reduced with 25 % medium acrylic enamel reducer, shot the paint with a cheap Harbourfreight style gravity feed HVLP spraygun. The results are great, there were no runs, no fisheyes, and very minimal orange peel. I did no prep on this old 48 Chrysler hood that has been in yard for years, it is rough, I scuffed it up, blew the dust off with air, then sprayed 3 coats wet-on-wet. This paint is super glossy, is as smooth as silk to the touch, my pics do not do it justice at all and yes my eyes are still good. It took about 10 hours to dry, as it is really humid here, and the base paint is oil based rust enamel. With the proper prepped surface, and with also adding DOI wetlook enamel hardner, this paint could come off very well, and cheap too boot, for guys like me on a shoe string budget. Black is not the easiest color to test with as it picks up every imperfection and flaw. Surprisingly, there was very little dust in the paint, while it dried on a sheet on the garage floor.............Fred

You have some stainless trim, usually the body side trim, the hood ornament, and tail light bezels, the grill might be chromed pot metal (cast), which pits, and is very expensive to have rechromed. The stainless steel trim should polish up nice and shiny using the right method..................Fred

Today I took an old 48 Chrysler hood, and painted part of it with Gloss Black Rust paint, reduced 25 % with medium speed enamel reducer. I then sprayed 3 coats on wet-on-wet, with my elcheapo HVLP Gravity feed spraygun. It came out awesome, no runs, next to no peel, no fisheyes, would look even better with Evercoat DOI Wetlook hardner, I am impressed with this, might paint my 47 Chrysler Coupe with this method, really like the results, very shiny........Fred

Hi Norm, my kids gotta eat too;) , so thats why everything I do is on the cheap .............Fred

Hi Eric, your very right about this, it could have happened anywhere. Sometimes folks in the USA might think, Canada is a country where crime is low, and these type of gruesome homicides never occurr. Nothing could be farther than the truth, yes maybe we don't have the homicide rates of the big US cities, thank God for that, but I work in Prison as a Correctional Officer, where I am posted in Minimum Security with no fence, we currently have over 20 lifers convicted of various homicides, so that is only the tip of the iceberg of the real dangerous types we have in Medium and Maximum Security prisons across the country. This Maniac that killed this other man on the bus, I would not be a bit surprised if we did not have him in our prison system already for either killing or seriously harming other people in some way, but they all get out at some point in this country.............Fred

The weather is not bad, this summer has been coller than normal, but it's quite humid, and today it's around 75 to 80, but very sticky. I am about 65 miles from where this butchery took place, I actually drove down that Highway 2 weekends ago, thats where I saw the University of Michigan Solar Car heading west to Calgary Alberta...........Fred

Thanx Tim, just did a test shot today, shot Gloss Black Home Hardware Rust Piant urethane enhanced mixed with 25 to 30 % medium reducer on an old 47 Chrysler hood, did minimal prep. I am impressed, very little peel, no runs, fisheyes. I can see how this paint might really work well with the DOI Universal hardner/gloss agent mixed into the equation.....................Fred

Tim I love my Devibliss clone gravity feed HVLP Sraygun, Princess Auto, on sale $34.99. There is like you say next to know overspray, I primed my whole car using this spraygun, overspray was minimal, jsut did my trunk lid, with 3 coats wet-on-wet, very little overspray detected, I did not even cover my lawnt tractor sitting 5 feet away, no overspray on my tractor. Rattle cans seem to have more overspray. I have my gun running at about 30 to 35 psi, more than recommended, any advice on this Tim, I am currently using a 1.4 tip...............fred

1880s London England , "Jack The Ripper", 1929 St Valentines Day Massacre Chicago 1973 Jack Bender axes people to death near Lockport Manitoba Seems like times haven't changed much, just happens way too often nowadays

Jon, that is really neat, how animals can be adaptive. to be honest I saw the angel faced Blonde that popped up on the Yahoo Careers and got a bit sidetracked for a moment............LOL

Jon, your right, but many things are occasionally posted on here that have nothing to do with 40s Mopars. Don't you remember the goofy "Winter In Manitoba" thread I started, it went for a year and was probably the largest thread on this forum, and I did not intend for that to happen. Was just sharing some of my life with you guys, because I do not have the luxury of meeting with you guys. When I am not interested in a thread, I simply don't read it.........Fred
