  1. Get the truck and engine running, put a 100 miles on it, then check out the compression. This old beast has been sittin a long time correct? I am not saying you may or may not need a rebuild or valve job and rings, get her runnin, put some miles on it, then see what you have...
  2. My shop knows about the crack Rob, he will pass it with the patch on, as long as it is sticking no big deal. A slight crack in an exhaust manifold will not pass a safety in these parts. as well as brakes, steering, lighting exhaust etc, and even a working defrost blower and wipers is a must here....
  3. hey lumpy, if they see a cracked exhausted manifold, it may not pass a DMV safety, as carbon monoxided could migrate into the cab, which for the most part is pure "bull$hit". Just want to patch it to last until I get truck in next week for the safety...
  4. Yah Bob, not expecting much, if it can hold out for a few days great. This stuff is good for 500 degrees too...
  5. Hey all, anyone ever use this product? I just did a temporary hairline crack on exhaust manifold. I need to do this to pass a vehicle safety, and do not have time to swap in donor manifold yet. I don't expect much, but this stuff cures hard like rock very quickly compared to the long dry of PC 7 epoxy....
  6. Normscoupe, is no doubt watching from the "cosmos", He would say paint it, then keep it on the driveway, he would have still enjoyed this forum for sure....
  7. Lot of areas, if no moisture, and nothing holding moisture, metal can be stable for years. The metal on these heaps is plenty thick too. It's where there is moisture, and areas holding water or wet dirt and water, things can rot fast...
  8. Is that just "some people talkin"...........LOL
  9. great, now strip, prep and paint, it is time....
  10. How about a paint job, think your way past the "Flavor of the times" Patina at this point. Should be fairly easy to strip out and prep now...
  11. Yeah, how about keep the 2 spd AT, get a 3.55 diff, and fly down the highway at 75 mph. I think it would be cool to have that auto trans used in the truck....
  12. You could try a "Google" search. I used screw in brass oval valve stems in the past they worked great, bought at local quality tire shop, not some "Fountain Tire" joint....
  13. You driving that fast, or hauling a trailer down hill or something....LOL Glad you like your new brakes... On a 47 Chrysler I sold last year, I rebuilt the whole braking system, could put a passenger through the windshield if I was braking hard. The stock brakes on it were quite good. I have modern self energizing drum brakes on the rear of this truck, brakes are decent, but certainly not like disc would be....
  14. Okay, so I initially posted early on this thread, but now I am posting late, go figure. Today installed new American made Raybestos MC in my 55 Fargo. I jacked up front end on truck did a complete inspection of steel lines, back of plates etc. Pulled old MC, not very difficult on these trucks. I got the new MC ready with 1 plug, 1 fitting for main brake line and the brake light switch. I then bled the MC on the bench, chased the threads on the 3 mounting bolts, as I did not have any new 3/8 UNF nuts and bolts. I installed MC, topped it off 1 more time with brake fluid, and voilà, instant brakes, well there seems a little air may be in the lines. I still need to install the new front brake hoses, and bleed the entire system, all should be good after that. I have not done a whole lot lately, been a super long cold winter, was nice to do some much needed work on the old heap...
  15. Every tube I ever pulled or saw in a Mopar flathead 6 in Canada, had a brass tube, last forever...
  16. thats not a bad theory...
  17. Here you go @ Rock Auto, very common GM part. No need for paying more at Flea Pay. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1326664,parttype,10474
  18. Great car, it needs heavier battery cables, and an 802 radio....
  19. Ed, it sounds like it is being used for it's intended purpose, easy enough to slap on another coat of paint when needed..
  20. The 218 engine in the 47 Chrysler I used to own. That engine was a 218 Canadian long block from a 1951 Dodge car...
  21. Nothing like a clean fresh painted engine block Merle, how well has it stood up so far?
  22. My 55 Fargo 251 engine, needs a paint job though....
  23. How, kemo sabe, Kramer makems good "brave", for a comedian............
  24. How is that yellow paint holding out ED, that old truck looks like it could be fixed up for the road again. I really do like the 40s Dodge trucks the best, the just look cool....
  25. Hey all, on my 55 Fargo, I have a really nice stainless steel front window trim, I pulled this off an old parts truck. I have never seen one before or since, not sure if this was a dealer add-on, or something you could have ordered from a JC Whitney kinda place. I am looking for a trim just like this fora very good friend, he has a very minty 56 Fargo truck survivor, that he would like a trim such as this. I am not willing to sell him mine, as they are really quite nice to have on the truck. Here is a pic of the trim on the truck....thanx Tod not sure this should be in this section or not...
