  1. I'm sure it will end up on air bags, with a scrap yard GM sourced V8 and 4 speed slushomatic, sporting an atrocious "patina" paint job, disgusting to the point it would make Helen Keller nauseous interior... Sorry, but that batch of idiots needs to be taken out and shot.

  2. I think the show is simply a joke....They buy a car, and they claim they have 2 weeks or whatever to have it ready for auction, even though it needs MAJOR work. Stop and think about it. If you considered all the time, and work it took to get YOUR car roadworthy, just imagine the shortcuts and half-a$$ed work they must put into these cars to have them ready for their "deadline". I don't care how good these guys are, I'd bet a very thorough inspection of the car when they are finished with it would be a real eye-opener, and result in buyer's remorse. Wayne

  3. I was not in a hurry to attack the tranny per the last suggestions, so I waited and thought two nights and a day. What I did was to add a 16' 4 x 4 by running it under the car up to the tranny E-brake drum. Then I chained it to that housing just as close as I could get it. I put a short 4x4 on the top of the long 4x4 then with eight strong sledge hammer blows it came loose. I then pulled it fully out with the come-alongs. I guess it's an example of 'mind over matter'. Then my wife brought me lunch. One picture shows the comparison of a standard 3 speed and a 3 speed tranny with overdrive. Now I can get back to the body work on my suburban.

  4. Those old time racer's sure did it tough safety-wise back then. Vintage film of race car crashes. No roll cages or seat belts or any safety gear. Simply amazing footage. I wonder how many of these guys died ? And the fans and camera men are right beside the track . . . . . crazy. Click on the web page link .... http://devour.com/video/vintage-race-car-crashes/

  5. Here are the first two pages out of a June, 15, 1940 issue of "Motor Service Magazine" about a twenty five dollar tune up. What I found interesting is that the engine bay appears to be a 1940 Plymouth or atleast some type of MOPAR from that time frame as the coil, intake and exhaust manifold and engine block all appear to be MOPAR,. The article states that the owner didn't have the valves ground at the 5,000 mile point. I remember my Father telling the story of his Father sitting at the kitchen table saying his 1937 Plymouth has been a good car as it has gone 10,000 miles without the valves being ground. From the rest of the article for 25 dollars it appeared the shop did a nice complete job. I wonder what 25 dollars would be in today's economy?

  10. Wayne, Your car looks great from the pictures in your photo book. Not looking to close may be some good advice. Better still, talking with a detailer like greg mentioned is a good idea. I have been focused on paint now for the last three years. My car came back from the painter in September of 2010 picture below. Over the next two years the painted started to dimple up from the primer. Needless to say it has been back in the paint shop for the last three weeks. The painter had to sand it down to the metal, reprimed it, and than multiple coats of finish paint. He says the car is perfect now. BTW at no charge to me he wouldn’t even let me pay for the paint supplies. The color is a little darker because I asked him to use a black primer to deepen the blue. I get to pick it up tomorrow (Saturday). After this I don’t care what happens I am not going down this road again. Probable cause by moisture either under or trapped in the primer. ? I guess what I am trying to say is my car looked great as long as you didn’t look close. When you park at a car show and see all the really expensive paint jobs you start looking to close at your own. Well after this three year adventure I am wearing sunglasses or better still no glasses. Chet…
