  1. Any insights or tips on removal of dash components on a 1949 Chrysler Windsor? Got the steering wheel, front windshield glass/rubber removed.... Bezel, speedometer, buttons, and wiring harnesses are stumping me. Here's what the dash looks like:

  3. I too have been pondering a 180 thermostat as my cooling system is healthy and mine runs at 165 with a 160 thermostat. BUT.... with a non pressurized system the boiling point is lower, even lower if you live at higher altitude. My oil temp still gets to approx 200 deg according to the lazer on the pan, so sludge is not an issue (detergent oil, short change intervals). I have seen temps go to 185 - 190 climbing some passes in the summer. Higher elevation only leaves me about 10 degrees before boil over (theoretically). Probably just leave the 160 in it.

  4. I have ta not care about money to be in this hobby? huh...didn't know that. lol Definately want to have an open mind about the"budget"...that's for sure. I think the issue here is finding what's right for the project, and paying to much for the wrong part adds insult to injury. 48D

  5. When I removed items from the dash 'frame' I put all bolts and screws back into the holes from which they came. Today I sandblasted that frame, then I mounted that frame on my bench, and reinstalled every thing I could. Details on my '53 Convertible post. Ray, the last one finished on our dashes buys rib sandwiches at Bravos in Traver, CA!

  6. Ya really want a treat, go to a "concours" event. Went to one with my wife-never again. I'd rather go to a dentist than hang out with some of those snobs. A friend of mine has a beautifil split window Vette that he had just finished himself. They wrote him up because the glovebox light bulb wasn't the right diameter, and he didn't have the head of the phillips screws in his kick panels all pointing the same way. When he heard that he got in and said: "yea, but watch what this bitXh will do and did a donut on the field then left. I'm pretty sure that wore out our welcome-but it was a hoot. I even saw one guy that I knew had his wife scrubbing his tire treads with a toothbrush. I knew better than to even ask my better half if she would do that. It takes all kinds they say........
