Reg Evans Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Just got back from a visit to a mans junkyard today in a neighboring city and spotted these twins. 49 Dodge Wayfarer roadsters. He'll sell them to me or $3500 ea. or $6000 for the pair. Anyone have a photo of one all fixed up? Man....right when I'm trying to stay in the selling mode. Quote

RobertKB Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Reg, if you like them, want them, can afford them, and can store them ..... buy them! You only live once!!!! Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 13, 2008 Author Report Posted June 13, 2008 Yeah Robert and Norm...I told the man,Tom, I have learned to "sleep on it" and would get back to him. I didn't say how many days I would need to sleep on it though. 5 or 6 years ago I bought (2) 39 Plymouth trucks from him and never did much with them except get the best one running. I did end up selling them for twice what I paid without much more than an investment of my time so that was a good experience. He also has a 56 De Soto Firedome wagon with a hemi that's calling me. OK....I'm going to bed now. Chance,it's a small world ! Send me the photos if you find them please. Quote

moparbenny Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) Reg ,if you can get them grab them! I have a '51 Sportabout that I'm restoring this body style was only 1949-51....and in '51 they only made 1002! '49 was the year of the roadster, by '50 they had roll up windows... by the way i'm missing a trunk for mine.... Edited October 19, 2009 by moparbenny Quote
boxer_inv Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 All those projects just waiting for someone..... Here I am drooling......and stuck on the other side of the world. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Back in the 1960s, I bought this 1950 model for $75. Was not running - never did determine why it wasn't. Kept it for several years, sold it, bought it back, and finally sold it to Paul Stern in Manheim, PA - a Mopar collector. Towed it out there with a tow bar and delivered it to a storage building. Have no idea what happened to it from there. The car was a dark green (original color) and the interior had been re-done in a red vinyl. Someone had made a seat for the back as these were just like a business coupe with only a front seat. Naturally, I would like to have it today. At first I called it a roadster, then older guys explained to me that the true roadster, with no wing windows, and eisenglass take-out side windows was only made in 49. And, not all the way thru 49, according to this article in "How Stuff Works"........ The top, though permanently attached to roof stays, was strictly manual, albeit with aluminum stays to keep it light. And in its first incarnation, which probably put off some buyers, the 1949 Wayfarer ragtop wasn't even a convertible. It was a roadster, meaning that it lacked roll-up windows. Halfway through the model run its lift-out windows, which proved unpopular, were replaced by conventional roll-up glass. BobT-47P15 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Benny, I imagine a trunk lid from a business coupe would work. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. Good luck. Quote
moparbenny Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 yea, I'm going to be looking for a business coupe for a parts car.as soon as i can clear out some space and raise the $$$$$....I'm going to post and ad in the wanted parts section for a business coupe trunk ( already have one on the HAMB)...but the missing trunk is the least of my worries for now i'm going to be doing the rockers, floors and such. thanks benny Quote
