brian hood Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Get in touch with Lou Earlman in Georgia. I saw a set up on a flat six at his house. He may be willing to share a few information. Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I got it, Vintage Air Gen II Yes it's very cold, yes you can keep the radio, need to shorten the glove box. Running 12 volts. Made my own bracket. Need to keep a eye on the temp gauge when you use it. I turn it off going up steep climbs. Got tons of pics but nothing labeled as yet sorry. You can sort thru them here. http://s148.photobucket.com/albums/s40/jd52cranbrook/1952%20Plymouth%20Cranbrook/Engine%20Rebuild%2007/?start=all Quote
p24-1953 Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 did you order the complete kit from vintage air? where did you get the compressor mounting bracket from? where did you get the double pully on the crank come from? Thanks for the info... Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Yes got the complete kit. I got a few brackets from Summit Racing and fabricated one from them plus some square stock. The double pulley I used my original single pulley, then bought another same size, cut off the center and had it welded to the original. Since then I have seen several double pulleys that looked like they would work. Quote
Lou Earle Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I am working on a bracket to allow a set up of an A/C compressor and Alternator to be mounted on the drivers side and the flan belt drives the compressor and water pump and the compressor then drives the alternator. My 65 mustang has this type set up from factory . Also I have another set up on the 4 door I got from Bobby Hodge- it is a dual system 6 and 12 volts - complicated but works well I can post some pics of that if anyone needs them. I allows you to keep everything 6 volts and run a/c and auxiliary fan on 12 I guess it would also support a radio unit 12 v. I plan on working on the bracket set up this week and trying it in a car. If it works the bracket I can sell fro about 50 bucks. you then need, on my current model, to buy a bracket for the generator and the compressor to attach to the bracket/plate I have made- the whole thing - store bought brackets my plate should rung about 125. If it works well it I think is really the easy way out on installing A/C Lou [/img] Quote
laynrubber Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Here is my airconditioning. I know it isn't real A/C and i have been told all it is going to do is fog your windows but i haven't tried it yet and i thought it was unique looking. Quote

p24-1953 Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 lou i would love to see pics of the dual 6/12 set up.... do either of your sey ups keep the gen.? if so do you have pictures of that set up? Quote
55 Fargo Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Louman thats a slick bracket, is that camo paint on that engine block......Fred Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 lou i would love to see pics of the dual 6/12 set up....do either of your sey ups keep the gen.? if so do you have pictures of that set up? Here is a picture I have of the dual voltage setup on the car Lou has. The 6 volt generator is still intact. Quote
p24-1953 Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 well aint that slick... couldn't you use a voltage step up? something to convert 6v to 12 to power the a/c? or should i just upgrade to 12volt. the reason im not wanting to do this is everything works good and runs good on 6volt. it has bright lights, fast starts and it seem sto be very dependable. Quote
Lou Earle Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 the main advantage to the dual 6/12 volt system is that you do not need to revise all and you can keep radio and overdrive units and the overdrive relays to 6 volt. However there are drawbacks. 1 you need a double pulley on the fan- hard to find Bobby the former owner found and used a ford pulley her had re done to fit the plym. 2 the bracket is complicated- that is a lot of pieces on this set up 3 The additional cost of maintaining 2 batteries 4 having wiring system for 6 and 12 volt and beings sure 12 volt positive side is isolated. 5 anyway if enough are interested I could see about taking my brackets off and having them duplicated. From what I have seen and know it is not a hard job however it will be time consuming. Lou Quote
Dale Uhrich Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 what I did is mount a sliding bracket on the drivers side of the motor. This bracket holds both the compressor and the alternator. the compressor has a double pulley. the crank pulley drives the compressor pulley which tightens by moving the bracket with both the compressor and alternator out. the compressor pulley drives the alternator which tightens by moving the alternator on top of the movable bracket. So far I have run it in my garage and it seems to work fine. Quote

p24-1953 Posted June 14, 2008 Author Report Posted June 14, 2008 1954 chrysler started putting a/c in the cars. they were 6 volt at the time, so cour you use one of those compressors? (i have a lead on one) Quote
