BobT-47P15 Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 You gotta read the fine print with their deals. Quote
Alaska48 Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Every time i've tried to sell a car online, I always get burned using ebay or cars.com craigslist is the way to go... its free and they always buy off of there Quote
greg g Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Heard e bay is rying to buy Craigslist. Surely will screw up a good thing if that happens. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 I heard the same thing about ebay trying to buy Craigs List. Would be ashame if they did that though. I just start looking at Craigs List in the last couple of months. I like it because you can just look and buy the stuff locally if you want. In fact, thats where I found that cheap set of wheels and trim rings I just bought last week. Contacted the seller on a Saturday and had the wheels on Monday. He only lived about 5 or 6 miles away. But...........where he worked was only about 2 or 3 minutes away, so met him where he worked to complete the deal during lunch. Can't do that with something on ebay. I'm now down to only 1 transaction on ebay in the last 12 months. Don't miss that mess at all. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 I read that Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, gave 25% of the site to a former employee (or business partner) who then sold that interest to eBay. I wasn't aware that eBay was trying to gain more control of Craigslist, but that wouldn't surprise me. eBay launched 'kijiji' a while ago, which is also a free local ads site with a slicker 'look' than Craigslist. I'm sure the busy minds at eBay are conjuring up ways to squeeze money out of both of those sites. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 e-bay has been the controlling interest in Craigs for some time as I read also..and they speak bad about Microsoft... Quote
John Mulders Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 guess that somewhere someone will start a new craiglist. People will back away from these costly ones at some moment as they realize it is not worth it. Quote
eric wissing Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/23/technology/23ebay.html?_r=1&oref=slogin Here is one of many articles. Eric Quote
Mr. Belvedere Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I just recently disovered Craigslist thanks to this great forum. I love it and rarely look at ebay anymore. Bought a car, and a treadmill in the past two weeks on Craigslist and got great deals on both. Easy to use and free whats not to love? Adios Epay! Quote
curtiswyant Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Ebay will generate a lot more views from people all across the country, which in theory should get you a higher selling price. Craigslist is great but it's regional and isn't very useful for selling high dollar items if you live in BFE Quote
