Don Coatney Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Must be a Georgia thing. Dawsonville pool hall. Can you find the paper towels? Quote
norrism1 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Same thing at all the "Hooters" I've been too. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Tim.....you're just paying a little extra charge for the scenery at Hooters. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 They did not make a pot. They ran next door to studbucks and bought a pot. Then upcharged you. Quote
norrism1 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 I don't even recall if there was a chair or table in Hooters last time I went..I do remember coffe at 9.00 a cup..that is why I have never returned...really how could you support a place that hates serving coffee som uch they go to this extreme to prevent making a pot... Tim, They closed the Hooters here couple years ago, company was cutting back and so Vestal, N.Y. closed. No big deal, gets boring with the same lousy food and high prices just to look at tight shorts and tee's Norris Quote
62rebelP23 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Tim, next time you're up here go by Bessingers for a plate of BBQ. napkins come by the roll there too. also at Capt D's. seems like folks got no idea what their sleeves are for..... hee hee hee. Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Isn't that how you check out a BBQ joint before you go in? Paper towels? No paper towels, and the food probably isn't very good. Quote
62rebelP23 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 that's iffy logic... just because a restaurant uses "napkins" instead of roll towels doesn't by any means guarantee skilled chef or decent suppliers. i have begun to wonder about the cleanliness of those cloth napkins some "upscale" joints use.... they seem to be treated with scotchguard or something like it and feel "greasy".... i think in retrospect that i'd rather have clean paper either on a roll or in flat napkins than "laundered" cloth napkins. but i won't eat at a place called Mel's, and i won't play cards with a guy named Pop..... Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Still lookin' for good BBQ here in Colorado. All my favourites in Minnesota had a roll of paper towels at the table, and that is my only frame of reference. So far, the best BBQ I've had came out of my own small water smoker. It won't be much longer and I can get it fired up again. Still diggin' up the garden for tomatos to go in the ground in three weeks. Quote
Tim Frank Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Great line! Up here in the Great White North we say something similar "never eat at a restaurant called Mum's....never play cards with a guy named Doc." Quote
John Mulders Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 capt Neon, must have plenty of good spots in Colorado! Been in Three Rivers and went for dinner there and the ribs were great (and big). Did some rafting in that area in June '94 (before global warming) and thought it would be cool to do that without a wetsuit....Cool is different Love Colorado , had a great RV vacation there, ballooning in Steamboat Springs and drove around the state. 62rebelP23 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 dang. it's near 10:30 now and i'm hankering for a plate of NC style BBQ... shoot. the best i had of that style was from "The Silver Pig" in Lynchburg Va. which, by the way, is 500 miles from HERE. a pig never died a nobler death than to be barbecued..... i recall a real pit roasted porker from 1982 hosted by my Uncle William, where all the guys used their Buck Knives to cut off slabs of the guest of honor. i don't recall whether we used napkins, towels, or sleeves that day.... (well, i didn't use MY sleeve, i was in my dress blues.) Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Regular paper napkins, at Arthur Bryant's BBQ in downtown Kansas City. But the sandwiches are huge. Quote
randroid Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Gents, As a fine-dining waiter with 25 years experience, I can testify that cloth napkins suck in the absorbancy arena. Problem is they are a necessary evil at a nice dinner joint. Cap'n, try BBQ Bob's at Diana Drive and 14th SW (402) next door to Schmidt's Deli. I don't consider myself an expert on BBQ but I love the way they cook their pork and am constantly amazed by their cleanliness and efficiency. Closer to downtown on Railroad just south of 1st in the Fentiman's building is a new place that is too pricey for regular dining but absolutely delicious. BTW, if you get to Bob's, go south on Diana (I'm waiting for the hoots-and-hollers) until you get to 18th. Directly across from where it ends is a dirt track for public access to a large parcel of open land. That's my '48 P-15 back there under the blue tarp getting stripped for painting this summer. If my red SAAB is parked in front bang on the door (1805) and come in for a cup of coffee or a beer. -Randy Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Regular paper napkins, at Arthur Bryant's BBQ in downtown Kansas City. But the sandwiches are huge. Bob, Whats with the bread on that sandwich?? Usually, it's on a bun in most places unless you ordered it special that way. Also, that must be just a beef sandwich, or..........they are real skimpy on their BBQ sauce. Personally, I like my BBQ meat shredded with lots of sauce oozing out the sides. Don't need a napkin or paper towel to eat it because I wouldn't get a drop on my hands. I use a knife and fork to cut it up and eat it. 1 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Norm.....yep, they give it to ya on white bread. You can add sauce to suit your taste. I would rather have a bun, but was no choice. Also would rather have had a smaller sandwich. (gripe, gripe) Bryants is one of the pioneer bbq joints in KC. Been visited by numerous famous people over the years, etc. Quote
Allan Faust Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Smoked meat has gotta be on rye with mustard, for any respectable smoked meat joint..... My opinion.... Allan Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 BobT, Been to Kansas City many times in the past. Company I worked for, for about 20 years had a district sales office there. Use to spend about a week there every 6 weeks or so working with the the local reps. Never heard of Arthur Bryant's. At any rate, if I'm going to have a BBQ I like the sauce cooked in with the meat for more flavor. Putting cold sauce on a hot sandwich just doesn't cut it for me, so I probably wouldn't care for their sandwiches. Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 I like to get my BBQ already dripping w/ good juices and sauce, and then I'll usually add some more. My smoker is calling my name. I might just pick up a Boston Butt on my way home tonight... Quote
Alaska48 Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 all this food talk is making me hungry... I gotta go have a sammich somewhere now. Alaska doesn't have any ma & pa sit down places... Fatal flaw, probably cause we're so "new" Quote
Niel Hoback Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Alaska48, look for a place at 1033 east 5th ave. called the Lucky Wishbone. It's been family owned since the late 40's I think . If you're a pilot, you can sit at the counter. Excellent hamburgers and strawberry shortcake! Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Humpey's or The Mining Company. Not family owned, but really good food. I really need to get back up there. Quote
