Plymouthy Adams Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 did anyone mention brake hoses ???? Quote
John Mulders Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Got my complete package from Charly. Including the tap. That was a bit scary as I don't have spare spindles in case something goes wrong. All installed and ready to go without any major problems (except for the incorrect spacer that was swapped by Charly without extra costs). Still happy I did that switch. I like to be able to rely on brakes ! John Quote
Guest Storekeep60 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Tim, The Scarebird setup uses the OEM hoses... I would recommend to anyone performing a brake swap to spend a couple of dollars and buy new flex hoses up front if they don't know how old their are. Mine were only a couple of years old, as I swapped them after an issue with a blown wheel cylinder out on the road... - To get home that day I ended up clamping off one of the flex hoses with needle nose vice grips and using duct tape to hold the handles closed.. - We, the car and I, made it home ok, but I put new hoses on when I rebuilt the wheel cylinders... Since then, I've had wheel cylinders leak or blow every summer, and finally said "Enough" and decided to convert to discs. So, if you use the AAJ or Scarebird kits, you can use the OEM '49 Dodge/Plymouth flex line part numbers to order new. Thanks. Darren Quote
55 Fargo Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 To Storekeep60, Glad the kit worked out well. Not to be a smartallec, but why would you be blowing or /have leaking wheel cyls every summer, were they new cyls each time? What type of brake fluid do you use, sounds like your car sits ou the winter too. A lot of guys I know use Disc brakes up front, but more use the OEM brakes, while some have had problems as you describe, but a majority, have no problems, just a question, not critisism.........Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 I've had to put 1 kit in the brakes on my truck in 8 years and nothing in my car brakes in 4. The truck brakes were already on there and supposedly new but maybe had been sitting too long. Quote
