Young Ed Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I've seen one other. Bebop here in the twin cities has one in his car. Quote
woodscavenger Posted May 11, 2009 Author Report Posted May 11, 2009 Well Don, does my PH count? I've been tagged and on the road for a month now. Never drove the truck with the old tranny so I have no comparisons but it seems to do great. I need to get my speedo calibrated before I can send some numbers. It seems to cruise nicely however. Keyword, seen. I have never laid my eyes on an old Mopar with a T-5 other than my own. Good to hear your Pilothouse has one and good to hear there is another in Minnapolis. I have heard of several folks who have purchsed the Curtis Kit but I have not heard from anyone who has actually installed it and are driving it. Quote
dezeldoc Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Don, that was a pretty good chunk you had to take out on the pilot hole in the bellhousing! played around with a couple things last night on a spare and it don't look to bad, why did you shorten the lower ears? also is your pilot bearing spacer behind the flywheel? Maybe i am just cheap but i don't see the reason for the high price on the kit. Quote

Maybe i am just cheap but i don't see the reason for the high price on the kit. I had to shorten the lower ears so they would not hit the rear motor mounts. I also had to grind some aluminum off of the lower front of the transmission case so it would not hit the crossmember. The pilot bearing mount fits on the motor side of the flywheel. Quote
dezeldoc Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Thanks Don, i was looking at the pics and thought it was behind the flywheel. i did not think about the mounts or crossmember, did you try the mustang one someone said the ears are different. what is with the front bearing retainer, did you make it longer? Frank Elder Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 Don, is the curtis kit an adaptor or a tranny? Quote
dezeldoc Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 The kit is an adapter, disc, and pilot bushing. Quote

fireman_033 Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I am lookin for a T-5 to put in my car. I have the disc installed on one side and have not bought the new rotor to install on the other side. It is a custome disc kit from part from a 75 plymouth duster. The junk yard that I deal with regularly is lookin for me a T-5. What is the best one to run? I will probably do a mod like Don did on his. I was lookin to run a dual master under the floor and the more I looked I decided it would be best to just run a master and booster on the firewall and hang a clutch/brake pedal on the firewall and run a T-5. Gotta get this done so I can get it to the body shop and get the floors done!!!! Scott Quote

I am talking about goin ahead and doin a T-5 swap to rectify my brake and clutch pedal problems at the same time. I was just sayin where I was on the brake swap to say I wanted to swap to hanging pedals and solve it all now and not swap later after puttin a master under the floor. Scott Quote
woodscavenger Posted May 12, 2009 Author Report Posted May 12, 2009 Just do it under the floor. I reversed the lever arm direction on my pedal with a custom bracket and built a mounting bracket for the new master cylinder to bolt to the frame. Works great and I keep the stock pedals. Quote

Scott Don't flop back and forth, talk about your brakes then about the trans, it all kinda runs together in your post. Try this link for a lot of great info on the T-5. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169265 Quote

Young Ed Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Well I need to get busy and work on my truck. I've got a second T5 in my clutches. Of course the rest of the truck is in a billion pieces and scattered in 2 states but thats only a minor difficulty. Quote
