Ramon Angulo Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Hey guys! I'm I a newbee to the forum. I have a 48 dodge deluxe four door that I restored. My question is about wiring new fog lights and spot lamps. I already have them mounted but I am open to any advice I cant get on wiring them up. What is the best way to do it? Quote
Normspeed Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Hi Ramon, you might find some good info on the Unity website. They are pretty helpful. Other than that I imagine you'd want a relay or two to handle the current, either 6 volt or 12 volt depending on your vehicle. Plus fuses or circuit breakers for the new circuits. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 its restored..has to be 6 volts Quote
greg g Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Hey Ramon welcome to the site. Looks like a nice on and I see you have the window mounted rocket assist. That keeps the fluid drive from getting overworked. ( yep I know its a swamp cooler but they doo look like jet pods) Anyway both the spot lamp and fogs should be self grounding so all you need do is run a switched power lead. You need to run some pretty stout wires, probably 12 gauge. You can tap into the acc post on the ign switch or you can run direct from the battery, through a fuse then a toggle or push pull switch to the lamps. If you do that however the circuit will be hot regardless of the key position. Do the spots have an internal switch? If so just run a power source through an in line fuse to the switch. You can also tap a power lead from the battery side large post on the solenoid, then run the lead through a fuse to a small insulated terminal block mounted under the dash. then tap that for to power your lamps through another fused switch wire. Lotsa choices but basically from power through fuse through swithc to lamp, or you can put the fuse between the switch and the lamp. Quote
Ed Griffin Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 FYI, barely can see the pictures but looks like the rear fender has the trim/moulding on it. If so, then it's a Custom, Deluxe didnt have the rear fender trim. If you added it yourself then I guess it could be called Deluxe yet look like a Custom. Either way, it looks really good from what you can see, welcome Quote
Ramon Angulo Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 Thanks guys for the info. Sorry I forgot to mention that i kept the car 6 volts. The spot lights do have a switch on them. I will probrably try wiring it to the ignition. Any idea what size fuse I should use? When I rewired the car I use a wiring diagram I got off of ebay but it didn't show anything about fog or spot lights so I was a little iffy. It took me a little while to figure out how to add pics, so I'll add some new large ones a bit later. The car is a Deluxe but I added the chrome trim on the back fender because I like the look. I'm also adding fender skirts. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Probably either a 20 or 30 amp fuse.... Nice looking ride. Welcome. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 What is the wattage of the lamps? There's a simple formula to figure out the amperage draw. Watts = Volts X Amps, or Amps = Watts / Volts. Example, if you have 2 - 35 watt lights, your total wattage is 70 watts. 70 / 6 = 11.7 Amps. In this example a 15 Amp fuse would be perfect. Quote
