It is not the official website as the elderly membership is still debating the need for a website. Please visit: http://www.geocities.com/rmpoc and let me know your constructive criticism. I intend to have the ads removed and a better URL, but that is still for the future depending on whether or not this website is recognised as the RMPOC's official website. Even though the older members do not use it there are loads of potential members and there's always a need for new members. Keep at it. Bob is right. A website is an extremely important component in club growth and sustainability. People simply expect to be able to get updates on everything ONLINE these days. Bob, I realise that a website is not for current members of the RMPOC, but rather as a tool to recruit and inform new members. It is a matter of convincing the current membership that it is important, and authourising a club website. Thus lies the rub, the RMPOC President would be no better than a communist dictator to authourise a website without the consent of the membership. And this is why the POC has trouble attracting a lot of possible new members, especially the younger people. Many younger people want to add modern radios, modern running gear (like disc brakes), radial tires and other safety and comfort accessories. I'm not one of those younger people. I'll be 64 in May but that is one reason I dropped out of the POC in the late 90's and won't join again. Simply because of their strict beliefs on rebuilding the cars. I'm not trying to rag on the POC, it's their club and they can have whatever rules that tickles their fancy. I'm just pointing out the facts. When you get down to brass tacks. Why should someone pay close to $30 to become a member of the national club, then have to pay another $20 to the local branch, if they don't agree with the rules? They can be in no club for free or join some local car club for a lot less and don't have to worry about all the rules if they want their car judged. If the club is not what they are looking for they will know to look elsewhere. I would hate for some one to show up at a national meet and be treated like a red-headed step-child. I, myself, have no interest in participating in national meets, esp. after having shown up as an observer maybe 11 years ago in KCMO. It was obvious that a guy in his early 20s was not welcome. My father-in-law while having a totally stock '70 AAR 'Cuda (back then) was definitely given the impression that muscle cars were not welcome at the national meet he attended about 8 years ago. There was controversy a few years back when someone with a modified engine was given a second place trophy. That was a bad deal for everyone involved. I like the idea of more power, but it strikes me as just another thing to go wrong. I know there are a few guys here with multiple carbs and don't know how they lived without'em. After waiting two weeks for my transmission to get re-built, I'm trending towards avoiding unnecessary pain. I still like the idea of a faster rear end or an overdrive before going to multiple carbs. Nice to know that even the best Ball&Ball setups leak gas, just like mine:D As far as the POC goes, I think there will always be traditionalists in the hobby, and as long as that makes them happy, it's great. My experience with the old POC website as well as with the California POC group has been positive all the way. I'm not much of a club participant though. I don't do well with commitments.
