mikehalek Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 hello all, I have a fenton 2 carb intake on a 218. I just bought a used set of old cast iron fenton headers. The old owner did not have the heat pipes and set up for the intake. Up here in Minnesota we drive it from spring to fall (40 to 90 temp). The 2 carb deal has a hand choke. Is the heat set up really necessary? Thanks in advance. Quote
Kustom52Mopar Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Yes heating the intake is necessary, otherwise you'll get driveability issues even in warm weather. I can't remember the exact science of it but if you look around at Langdon's site I'm sure its posted there. I know its in the back of his cataloge too. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Mike you lucky dog! where did you find them? Taking good care of the parts car? Also the heat pipes look pretty easy to fab up. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 I run this setup, no heat riser. I made a metal plate for the underside of the intake but it's not really needed. I've driven it in 20 to 100 degree weather, no big issues. Quote
mikehalek Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 Thanks for the pic Ed. Thats exactly what I needed to see. Yes the parts car is fast asleep waiting for better weather. Quote
claybill Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 the heat pipes obviously will help...BUT, when i went dual carbs i just eliminated the heat part on the exhaUST..AND COVERED INTAKE UP WITH A PLATE.. BEEN OK FOR 3 YEARS. BILL Quote
greg g Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 I run my duals o the fenton without heat. I have run the car with temps in the low 30's with no problems other than a bit of an extended time before the choke can be fully shut off. I have given some thought to zip tying the heater hose to the intake along its full leght but haven't found a compelling reason to do so. Quote
Suddensix Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 I run a dual Fenton intake and headers in Toronto from early spring til the snow flies. No heat riser, no heat tubes, choke on 1 carb. Never had a problem in 2 years and the car runs great. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 My set-up has no heat risers to the intake. British weather is not generally warm but everything's always been OK. I run the car throughout the year. Quote
teardrop puller Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I use hot water from the heater circuit. I bought the Langdons plate and plumed it so water comes from the block(heater place on the head) to the water pump. This was the way I did it on the jeep and it works great. kai Quote
