James_Douglas Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Anyone live in the LA basin? I am taking the Desoto for its first very long trip in a few weeks. Just in case something goes FUBAR I thought I would take a few phone numbers with me... Best, James Quote
David Maxwell Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 ...in Santa Maria. I'll send you contact info by PM. Quote
TodFitch Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 I believe you have my phone number. . . While I am not very far south of you (45 or so miles) I do have access to the Golden State Region's roster and there are a fair number of people in the region who live in the LA metro area. So if you run into trouble, give me a call. However if you are leaving this weekend be aware that I will be in the Sierra at a location where I know from experience that my cell phone does not work. One of the reasons I keep too busy in the winter to work on the car. . . http://www.pinecrestnordic.org/files/PhotoAlbum/2008%20Group%20Photo.jpg Quote

James_Douglas Posted February 2, 2008 Author Report Posted February 2, 2008 Thanks everyone! Sondra's 83 year old mom fractured her ankle in 3 places and we are headed down to give Sondra's sister and husband a rest from their taking car of her. If I have time, I will try calling some of you and having lunch (or a drink!) Don, I have not had my transmission repaired. It will have to wait until I get back and tear the whole thing out and inspect it myself. My shop friend, who has a 1/2 dozen classic cars in his shop on any given day is just to booked up to get me in before we head down. He took one look at the replacement part, that I asked George to send, and shook his head. He has piles of spare parts for these OD units (Which was a supprise to me when he took be to the back of his shop!). He said the ring was WAY to snug on the gear and if the one in the car is like that he wonders that it shifted at all. Time will tell. I am driving around with the OD cable pulled out. I will take out the SOL and clean the points well this week and only use the OD on the main freeway runs. What, if anything can I put on the points to make sure they don't stick and minimize the blackening for the trip ? Like I said in another post, the blocker ring is hanging up and the SOL cannot always plunge in when it is supposed to. After 27 MPH the main current stays on and the points have to take more than they are supposed to. I will also take along a spare SOL and Relay. Best, James Quote
