1940Mopar Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 On a haunch, I decided to purchase a wheel cylinder from Vintage Power Wagons I ordered part number 12:924206. They came 3 days later and amazingly enough bolt right up to my backing plates on my 1940 business coupe. There is a slight difference with the two parts in that the original wheel cylinders angle out at the location where the brake line connects with the cylinder. The new part causes the brake line to exit straight out of the back of the cylinder. There are no clearance issues and I am sure that I'll be able to locate the parts for the cylinders as long as our friends at Vintage Power Wagons are willing to supply them. I've also heard that cylinders from a 1957 Dodge D100 1/2 ton pickup with work. I'm not sure if the part I ordered is the same as the D100 but I am excited to finally have my braking problem solved. I also learned that the cylinders on my car require a banjo fitting that I know I've never seen since purchasing the car several years ago. Fortunately the new cylinders come with the fitting, I just need to be sure that I'm installing them correctly. I'll be ordering an additional 3 cylinders tomorrow, and will snap pics as soon as they arrive so that our members can make the comparison. .....Now to work out this throttle linkage issue. Quote
mackster Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 That's great news! Do you think they will fit the bigger Desoto's???? Quote
1940Mopar Posted January 28, 2008 Author Report Posted January 28, 2008 I'm not 100% sure. I'll post up pics of my original so everyone can see how they mount. Here is the catalog pic of what I got from Vintage Power Wagons. Again I'm not sure what else it might fit. I do know that according the knowledgeable staff at VPW the mounting holes are 2 inches on center. Quote
billwillard Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Have them sleeved and you will never have to worry about them agin. Even in your next life. Bill Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Bill I would like to know if you or anyone else knows where I could get my rear wheel cyls sleeved in eith the continental US or Canada. I don't think I would do the fronts, as would like to convert to disc up there someday. My rear cyls have been redone, but there is a slight leak in one, that is bound to leak a lot more.........Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 www.brakeplace.com never had anything sleeved by them but they did the clutch in my coupe and I bought all my brakes from them. Even been in the shop a few times. Not sure how expensive it is though. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Fred, One of the guys gave me this info for a brake place in Minneapolis: Brake Place 455 Harrison Street NE Minneapolis, MN 55413 612-378-3141 info@brakeplace.com I talked to the guys there last week. They seemed very knowledgeable. You can send them your cylinders and they will sleeve them and send them back. They are charging me about 100 bucks to resleeve my master cylinder (including shipping). Quote
