Don Jordan Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I always buy things and every one tells me I could have got it for less somewhere else. I found 2 front fenders for my Plymouth - the guy says they are a 9 out of 10. $325 each. I called the guy working on my car and he said it would cost more than that to fix my old fenders. I bought a fender on e-bay for $100 but these fenders I found were from a junk yard and I'm sure he knows what they are worth. any comments? Quote
Heavy Flat Head Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 That is a problem about another person opines. Not worth much if there are running you down. Do these people pay the bills and have a good looking Chrysler in there driveway? Look at it in the big picture; First how much to get the $325 fenders to were you would be satisfied. Then compare them to the $100 fix to the point you would like them. If the higher price ones were in better shape than the lower price ones, then most likely the higher ones would be a better value taken into account the cost of labor. Also remember shipping charges plays a big role on parts of this size. When I try to figure labor prices out I double, no not true most likely should triple, the price as I am still kind of slow on how fast labor rises. Gee that is funny; Mine does not. Quote

claybill Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 well....it is a little high..200-250 seems more like what i see on ebay and salvage.......your old one will bring a few bucks, subtract that..... even the 350 ones are going to need lots of surface prep. how bad do you need 'em? its only money. and if you cant wait......drive out and get 'em. bill Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I think it's all "relative" Relative to how bad you want/need them. How much you can or will spend for them. They do seem a bit high......but how long have you looked for some. Are there none left near where you are? Several things to consider. Two cents, please. Quote
Don Jordan Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 Gentleman I thank you one and all - I guess it's good to ask opinions from people as crazy as me because then you get to hear what you want to hear. Not everybody understands the draw of old cars. If I really wanted to waste money I'd buy a boat. I'm leaving tomorrow for this junk yard in Fresno, CA. The guy said they have 10,000 cars - I probably won't count them all but I will take my camera and try to share some pictures. The windshield on my P15 was scratched so I had new glass cut. Now I've got to figure out what to do with the old glass. Do you think that might sell on e-bay? Quote

I am looking for a shop that can do that for me but I'm having problems because my car is chopped..... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Don..not to bust your bubble but a piece of used flat windshield glass ..would not be in the market myself unless it was side glass..the windshield being clear is very inportant to me....but hey...who's to say other think as I do. Be like most of them guys..list it for 99 cents and make it up on shippping...(could not resist that) but I see your point..it a shame to chunk something that is till intact..I use an old piece of laminated glass tomix bondo on..it is smooth and cleans up so easy with a razor blade when you finish your application. Don a few years ago I parted out a 49 Plymouth suburban sold the windshield glass for at least $25 ebay is worth a try a lot of strange things happen there, of course it does depend on how bad its scratched . I would make it pick up only as glass is a pain to pack. Quote
kiwi mopar Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Hi. many years ago i had old chrysler (aussie one). there was a guy who had a set of door for around $350. i didn't get them because they were to dear. the door were in good con and need a sand and paint and bolt on. i end up spending over $600 on doors in the end. i got some cheap $20 each. but spent $100s on them in the end if you can just repaint and bolt on to me in sound the better way to go. thank kiwi Quote
RobertKB Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 If you need them, get them. It is only money. I have kicked myself too many times in the past after letting something good get away because I felt they were overpriced. My guess is you will save money in the end. Quote
