woodscavenger Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 What a great group this is! I bought my B1B in October with some misgivings about buying old MOPAR due to lack of parts, etc... and stumbled onto this group. It has been a great source of information for a young guy with limited mechanical experience and tools. With your help I have resurrected an old 237 Spitfire L6 after rebuilding my first carb and finally figuring out the timing even though I lack the marks on my pulleys. I have completely ripped apart the body and now have the truck down to the frame in its next stage of restoration. I have been gathering advice and information reguarding the buildup and restoration including the possibilities of...cover you eyes restoration buffs....some modifications and hotrodding possibilities. I am in the process of ordering a disc brake kit soon as well (i.e. more questions to come) Well in the midst of this all I have looked around a bit for the SS trim piece that fits the front of the hood. Merle emailed me with pictures of several of them. He took the best one and offered me the next one. I wrote back asking how much $$ for the part and the shipping. His answer......send me your address. No, how much for the part........send me your address. Well, the part arrived yesterday. Amazing. Thanks Merle!!! It shows how great a group like this can be. If plans go well I hope to have the truck back together this summer so I can actually drive the thing. I hope I like it. Thanks again to Merle and the rest of you!!!!! Quote
grey beard Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Mr. Wood, Now if those ss pieces have a few dingles in 'em, send them out to David Turner in Fresno and he'll make them look perfectly new again. Mine were literally smashed flat and they came back looking like NOS. The man is a ss magician. Call him at 559-237-0892. You'll be glad you did! LOL:) (Paint is Brightside Polyurethane with 4-inch foam rollers from Home Depot.) Quote

Todd B Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I have had the great pleasure of meeting Merle, once @ the Iola car show and the second time he stopped by just to say hi. He is TRULY a sincere person. Its to bad he is not 20 years younger, I would tell my daughter to chase him. Keep up the great personality Merle, what goes around comes around. Todd B Quote
Jim Shepard Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 grey beard's right. David Turner is a magician with stainless. Here's a photo of mine as I was re-assembling everything. It looks perfect! Quote
Job~Rated Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Merle helped me out, too, so I'm with you guys on this one. In this fickle time, it's really refreshing to know there are still genuine people out there. Big ups to Merle. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I will add my thanks to Merle too. I haven't met him quite yet but when he gets up this way he's going to drop off a flathead for me. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Thanks guys, I'm glad I was able to help you all. Ed, I'm looking at the possibility of doing my previously posponed Eau Claire trip next week. I'll keep you posted. Maybe you'll have a nice Flathead just in time for Christmas. Merle Quote
