29 DeSoto winter work

Hickory

Recommended Posts

As some of you may remember last year i pulled off an impressive amount of work on my car to make the nationals. Im at it again. I have started some body work on the car. I have spring work to do. I will once again keep a running post on progress since there is little info on these cars here.

This all started with a fuel tank. I drained the summer fuel out of the tank and the color was a rusty color. I decided to remove the fuel tank and clean it out. A week of soaking in vinegar while i ordered the por 15 fuel tank liner. Then i put a chain in the tank and shook it alot. Dump the vinegar and chain out. Rinse out with paint thinner 4 times and what a nasty color came out.  I then used some muriatic acid for a last cleaning. Dump acid and rinse with paint thinner. Pour in the por 15 and swish it around let drain and dry. One week later did the por 15 once again and let dry.

So as you may know in order to remove the fuel tank i had to remove some panels. Of course i couldn't put them back on like they were. Time to spot blast and sand.

An issue i have had at car shows is every car prior to 36 must be a ford model a or t. If you look in the picture by the radiator cap the badge says DeSoto in it real light and hard to see. I came up with a fix for this issue.

You must get the same responses I do when I take the '37 Terraplane to shows and such..."a what?"..."who made that?"  I like the bold script idea.
