Hi all, my new gas tank arrived today from Clearwater Minnesota, from TanksInc. I was at work, so the courier took it back to his depot, so I will get it tomorrow. Not bad time, it was shipped on Tuesday, and yesterday was Thanksgiving in the USA. But the big surprise is my Duty, Brokerage Fees, I owe UPS another $79.00:eek: for there fee and the Tariff as the product was made in Taiwan. The price of the tank was $250.00 plus $70.00 for shipping it the 400 miles to my place, if it was shipped the same distance within the USA it would have been $30.00. So now my tank is at $400.00  , with all the hidden extras, good thing our dollar is strong or it could have been up to say $450 or more. Not tring to complain or sound like an elcheapo:rolleyes: , but this not such a cheap gas tank now, but at least I have one now.................Fred

Fred Hope it works out for you. Found out its not the same place we bought a few tanks from. Funny there is another gas tank place about 35 miles from tanks inc.

Fred,

Thats a kick on the tariff and shipping. However, look at the bright side of the deal. As you said, you now have a gas tank. And, if you had driven to the place and picked it up, the cost to get it would have been much, much more in the cost of gas alone.

Don't you just hate UPS. It would have been cheaper to ship it by Greyhound or the United States Postal Service/Canada Post. I often will not buy from a vendor if they only ship UPS. UPS charges the vendor for shipping and then they have the nerve to charge the receiver as well. With the post office you only pay once for shipping and then they collect any taxes/duty owing when they deliver. Postal service is way cheaper.

I just had a new gas tank for my '64 Tempest shipped from California to Ontario via UPS. I was told that my gas tank could not be shipped through the postal service due to size and weight. The cost of the tank was $112.50, shipping $130.00, brokerage fee and taxes $56.00 for a grand total of $298.50. However, in my case I could have ordered one through NAPA and the cost would have been $514. plus taxes.

Picked up the tank today, they actually charged me less. I was quoted $250 for the tank over the phone, they charged me $215, plus $66.00 for shipping and $79 for UPS brokerage fees for a total of $360 for the tank.

Opened the box to find, to my pleasant surprise, new straps, and gasket for the sending unit, no clamps for the piece of hose, that goes between the necks for filling gas.

It is still a universal style filler neck attachment on the tank, but looks like it should work fine. The sending unit fits in the hole fine, but the screw holes line up in such a way that the sending unit float might hit the side of the tank, will have to figure that one out though.

Its nice to start with a fresh clean tank, and it's baffled and vented.......................Fred

The new tank has a bolt on flange for the filler neck, did not think it was made like this as the picture shows a solid filler neck. It has a flange, with 5 machine srew holes, a gasket, this needs to be put on with gasket sealer, I hope it isn't a bee-yatch to get to seal. Have any of you guys used a tank like that. There is also a rollover valve with vent, it has to be mounted higher than where the filler neck attaches to the tank, not sure I need this valve, maybe I should eliminate it.

Fred,

That sounds just like the Poly Tank setup. Yes, you must install that rollover valve. That relieves pressure in the tank. Also, if trying to fill the tank without the rollover valve, the fumes will collect and not allow you to fill up all the way.

Before starting the project, check your filler tube that goes through the fender. On the poly tank the filler neck that goes on the tank is smaller in diameter than the filler tube in the fender. If that's the case with your tank, you'll need to step the tube up from the filler neck that goes to the tank. That's a pain. If you have trouble with that, send me an email and I'll tell you how I did mine. Not the greatest system, but it worked. Also check under the car and make sure the strap brackets line up with the strap locations for the new tank. The poly tank does not line up here either because the tank is larger and you have to move the brackets under the floor. You may also have to slightly adjust the location of the tank.

Allan, exactly, I tried to have it shipped USPS, but Tanks.Inc were not willing to do it, I should have insisted. It is still a lot cheaper than if I went and picked it up, as it is 400 miles from my place to there shop. BTW, where have you been, good to see you back on.............Fred

I show up from time to time, but most of the time just for a quick minute.... I've been moving people and stuff around (hopefully myself also soon... got to wait to see if I get the job or not... or A job, etc....) since september, life has been a little hectic and since I've been down in the dumps in the meantime, well, I didn't want to bring anyone down with me with negative comments in any way....
