3 into 1 Fenton style exhaust (Langdon parts) and how I'm going to use them :)

Well, I am of course going to use them on my 230 engine, but Langdon (now sold via 12bolt.com) doesn't sell the flanges. I went looking for flanges, but couldn't find an exact fit. The best measurements I get are these use a 3.2" space flange for 5/16-14 bolts. Seems all the 2" flanges I could find all have 3.25" spacing, and it's for 3/8 bolts. I figured the extra dia would make up the spacing, and it does, but the flanges were pathetic in my opinion, with very little material compressing the gasket...if you can find one that fits.

A common theme you might have noticed, is that I can and will design my own solutions, when I can't get what I want. So, I did. Here is a picture of why I did this. Now these flanges were only about $4.50 each and shipping was reasonable...but.

IMHO, I can do better...so I did. I designed a flange that exactly(ish) matches the outline of the manifold flange, and it 2" ID. The holes are spaced exactly with a lose clearance fit for 5/16-14 bolts. I did a 3/8" flange thickness also. They were about $38 shipped to my door (2 each).

My intent is the use a grinder to size and cleanup the manifolds so I have a 1/2 depth at 2". They measure around 1.9" right now. I'm going to break the edge all around the perimeter a bit also. The reason is, I'm going to use donut gaskets.

I'll weld pipe so it sticks through the flanges and goes into the 1/2 deep pocket. I'll put the donut around the pipe, and when I tighten the bolts, it will begin to extrude/deform the donut gasket into the manifold. We do this exact thing on Harley shovelheads to eliminate gasket failures. I haven't changed a gasket on my 79 FLH is oh, maybe 15 years.

The new flanges ship on Monday, so once I get them I can bolt them in place and use them as a template to scribe a line on the manifolds. What could be more fun?

Got my new parts in today. MUCH better design, if I do say so myself :)

Where did you order these custom flanges from?

I too have a set of Langdon headers that have been on the shelf for about 10 years now....

Its a place called SendCutSend. You just send them a drawing of the part, tell them the material and thickness and bam. I've used them a couple times now. Better than going to a traditional machine shop, or even just doing it yourself some times.

How was your experience with SCS?  I looked into them and my dxf that was in inches they said was in mm?

...hey, that would work if you're making a scale model of something. 😂

You should make sure that the scaling of the DXF export is correct, it does happen. I usually dimension the drawings also. Keep any issues like that from happening, because they have the dimensions I say it is right in the drawing. The only problem I had was in the first part I sent them, I sent a top and side view, as I would most vendors. They sent me both parts :)

The exact same file worked just fine at CoreMark metals....no scale issues....I guess a drw file woudln't hurt.  Next thing I need made I was going to try them.

can I ask, I think it was above, what software are you guys using?  I dont have access, and cannot use my work software even if I had access to it for personal use, to a free or reasonably priced software to do basic things.  I would like to have some laser cut sheetmetal made but the local shops to me are not interested so hoping if I can find a good software to get to do some basic work.

Do a google search. There are a number I have used, but it's been awhile. I use Solidworks and Draftsight, so...

No, SendCutSend only takes DXF files.

Creo is what I currently use.

SCS looks legit. I hadn't heard of them before. I see they offer many materials and in addition to cutting out shapes, they do bending, threading, fabricating, and plating. This should greatly expand the horizons on restoration needs.

They could probably even make a new battery box from the template that was posted on here or DPETCA years ago.

I'm an AutoCAD person, so my project list is growing as fast as I can draw, lol...
