juanmc87 Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 Any suggestions on how to remove the oil seal that sits in the retainer on the back of the tranny? Its part that leads to the yoke. It's on an NP420. I don't see any identification on the seal, if someone could help with a replacement part # as well I'd appreciate it! Quote
kencombs Posted October 26, 2023 Report Posted October 26, 2023 Punch or drill a hole in the seals metal rim to insert a large sheet metal screw or two. Use them to lever it out. Quote
Dave72dt Posted October 26, 2023 Report Posted October 26, 2023 You'll need to press the yoke out of the retainer first, then the seal can be removed. Quote
JBNeal Posted October 27, 2023 Report Posted October 27, 2023 When I have worked on this part of the transmission, after the yoke comes off, I unbolt the cast retainer to replace that weepy paper gasket and clean all of the old crud off of the casting. The seal is much easier to remove without that output shaft in the way. The replacement seal might or might not be difficult to source, depending on your vendor. Quote
