Dave72dt Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 .An industrial engine probably would have had a governor on it to limit top RPM but jetted to provide max torque. Unless You have fuel delivery problem, I'd start looking at point bounce, gap and advance. Have you tested fuel pump volume? Quote
soth122003 Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 Well I don't think fuel delivery is the problem. While driving I used the fuel prime pump I installed for starting (electric) to boost fuel flow and there was no difference in performance. The engine still stumbled at high rpm. Point bounce and gap may be a problem as I haven't checked those yet. The advance is working just fine as those were checked with the timing light and vacuum gage when I retuned the engine when I installed the E7T2 carb. I might try changing the primary jet out with the one from the old D6G1 after I check the points and bearing play in the distro. I will do these one at a time as to make sure to have a solution to point to instead of doing a bunch of things, curing the problem and then not knowing which one worked. The E7T2 looks identical to the D6G1 except for the extra base mount screw at the back of the carb. The main jets might be different sizes but I don't know. I was looking over the D6G1 I just got and the needle is not rubber tipped. I can see a very small wear area where the needle has worn into the seat, but could only see it with a magnifying glass. I will use a new needle and seat that comes with the rebuild kit, but I might try the old ones just for giggles and grins. If they work they will be kept for later use if needed. I will check out the hardware stores for the spring for the fuel filter and keep you guys posted if I find a good sub for the original. The thing I hate about that is the leg work involved. Gap was over .030 and they were pitted. Filed them down, re-gapped lubed distro put it back together. Checked the distro shaft play it was zero, Reset the timing and to 0, 19 in of vacuum idle set. Road test @ 65MPH no stumble and screaming like a raped ape. Still had plenty of top end as well. Rebuilt the D6G1 today and it's now sitting on the shelf ready to go. Still need to find the spring for the carter fuel filter then I will install that. Joe Lee Quote
maok Posted September 12, 2023 Report Posted September 12, 2023 It won't hurt to advance the timing, you can probably goes as high as 10degree BTDC. Your vacuum gauge will be a good guide to advancing it. 1 Quote
