rcl700 Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) Well I'm not getting fuel to the card so I have pulled the pump and dropped the tank. They both need a good going though. My question is, should I be rebuilding this pump or replacing. If rebuild what numbers to I lookup to find the correct kit. I see that the other 230 I have has a different looking pump with no bowl is that type better? I have no idea if this pump is original but is sure is dirty? I have the glass bowl, it was removed when taking pictures. Edited May 18, 2023 by rcl700 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 Looks like a typical 588 Airtex or AC pump. Very common pump. The new replacement pumps have the rocker arm pins fall out. I'd rebuild that one with a quality kit. Quote
chris 48 P15 Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 then and now website should have this rebuild kit it also will come with the rocker pin correction uses c clips or e clips to hold pin in place Quote
Bingster Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 Rebuild! Then & Now have excellent rebuild kits. BYW, they have little C clips that fit into grooves on a stainless pin that hold each ends of the rocker arm pin on the pump. Easy to rebuild. I've done it. See other post on pumps. 1 Quote
FarmerJon Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) I rebuilt mine, had to come up with a tool to set the check valves correctly. I thought I had it posted on here but can't find it. Here is some pictures of mine, including how I set the check valves and pin. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/fuel-pump-rebuild-help.1253155/ ETA: It looks like the other engine might have a Carter pump, which if I remember right doesn't have rebuild kits available for it. If it works, you could swap it to keep forward movement, while you rebuild your current AC pump. Edited May 18, 2023 by FarmerJon 1 Quote
